News From Our Students

Student Representative to the Board

University of New Haven school visit.

In the beginning of October I had the opportunity to visit University of New Haven interior design program and interact with the students during one of their ASID student member meetings. It was great to see so many students attend and come to hear about ASID and what ASID has to offer. For students ASID is a key stepping stone in the start of their career. The interactions with professionals in the industry and the opportunities ASID gives students is unbelievable and can help any student starting in this industry. It was great to see new students sign up to become student members and current members still excited and involved in their student chapter. Can't wait to see more students attending events and becoming more involved in ASID

Thank you Ellen Hyde Phillips for the wonderful photos of our University of Bridgeport interior design students

News From Our Students

Isabella Theberge, Student ASID
University of Bridgeport Chapter Secretary, Division II Student-Athlete

Striving to make a positive impact in the world begins here.

I am starting my junior year as a second year student member of ASID, secretary of our University of Bridgeport ASID chapter, and am a student-athlete on campus, playing Division II lacrosse.

Interior Design is a career path that I have gotten more and more passionate about each year I have been a student. My interests veered and I now strive to do as much good as I can for people and the world. I value sustainability, health, and cruelty-free as aspects that I want to center my life on promoting through design.

As designers, we have the privilege of touching people's lives in so many ways - making spaces useful, comfortable, productive, peaceful, inspiring, and impact emotions by choosing colors, fabrics, features, and art. We compose homes, offices, gyms, schools, restaurants, and so much more. We are innovators, with each project we solve problems, interact with people, families, and communities. We empathize and collaborate with others. We impact lives. I cherish my role as a designer and ASID is a huge part of it.

I joined the ASID chapter at University of Bridgeport because I wanted to get involved with our wonderful little community of designers in SASD. I saw the work the board had done in the past and wanted to be a leader in that space to build our community even more. We have a passionate group of students here and I am so glad I am a part of it.

Each member has a unique and diverse background that will benefit us all. They have been working diligently, locking invigorating events that will surely inspire you.
Our goal this year is to create events to promote collaboration, enhance knowledge that can help grow your business. We have been reaching out to top professionals from well-rounded backgrounds that want to share valuable information .
On October 19th we held our "Autumn Festival" event which included a strong group of well known, respected key opinion leaders with a successful track record . I'm honored to have had these powerful ladies as our guest speakers to empower you. On the October 26th we had a very succcessful and well attended double CEU event (Farrow & Ball and Franke) located at Bender in Norwalk. On November 16th, we had another exciting CEU at Safavieh in Stamford and there will be more to come in the new year.
Mark your calendar for December 7th! It's our ASID CT End of Year Party with a twist. In addition to a beautiful venue with featured taste stations and signature cocktails, we are going to include a playful casino night for donations to a local charity! Member Spotlight

Beth Krupa, Allied ASID

Beth Krupa Interiors (BKI) is a residential and hospitality full-service interior design firm with a global perspective that comes from Beth's having lived abroad for many years. Her life and experiences living in London, India, Hong Kong, and NYC continue to influence her firm's designs. Beth, who is the firm's principal and lead designer, works to create a distinct and meaningful sense of place for her clients, and she loves seeing how everyone thrives when this is accomplished at the end of each project.
Between this year and last year Beth was awarded three national design awards presented by the Interior Design Society: out of 14 categories Beth won 3 DOTY awards (Designer of the Year). To Beth, and her team, great style is all about editing and editing well. It's true in fashion where Beth worked as a fashion buyer for years with Bergdorf Goodman, Henri Bendel, and Calvin Klein, and where she saw that what you're not wearing is as important as what you are wearing. Today, BKI applies that same philosophy to the home or commercial environment where every space is defined by both its usefulness and its beauty for the people living, visiting, and working there.
Over the years, Beth has developed a clear and transparent practice that lets her clients understand their project from the largest overview to the smallest details. BKI demystifies the design and thought processes behind the creative considerations leading to their clients' story being told. This comes from the desire to create an idyllic space - one that gives clients a breathtaking moment on installation day when their newly designed home is revealed to them for the first time. "My favorite day of the job is the installation. I love watching all our efforts and planning come to life....inspired by my clients to create a lifestyle unique to them."
ASID has been an important aspect for me. Aspiring to be Allied ASID was my goal when I returned to university to study design. I especially appreciate the comradery and sharing of best practices amongst the design community. The CEU credits both at market and locally keep us all fresh and plugged in to what's new. I believe ASID elevates us in our practices and is one way to show professionalism within our firms.
