BBACC Kicks Off #ThinkLocalFirst Campaign on Small Business Saturday
The Bucksport Bay Area Chamber of Commerce is encouraging people to “Think Local First” by shopping at Home for the Holidays. Supporting independently owned businesses helps all of us in our community not just at the holidays but all year round. On Saturday, November 25th we’ll cut a ribbon across Main Street in Bucksport at 10 am to officially open the holiday season. We’ve invited other surrounding communities to do the same and as a result Head of the Bay Business Alliance has partnered with us to host their own ribbon cutting at the Wentworth Event Center in Belfast at 10am! It is a great way to draw attention to amazing and varied small businesses and invite everyone to come and enjoy the season’s best.

As part of our month long celebration we are bringing back a contest where shoppers can win a prize! $100 Cash provided by Main Street Bucksport, a BookStacks “Still Mill” prize package, and Bangor Daily News has added a free year subscription to Bangor Metro Magazine.
We need your help to encourage customers to shop local and show them how they can win! Anytime someone shops with a small business in any of the communities the Bucksport Bay Area Chamber of Commerce represents for goods or services and “Thinks Local First” they can present their receipt to the Chamber and fill out a ballot to enter to win. Another way shoppers can qualify is if they take a selfie while shopping, “check-in” to the business and submit it to the Chamber's Facebook page using the hashtag #thinklocalfirst. The final way customers can enter is to sign the pledge to shop at home for the holidays, pledge boards are located at local businesses.

Watch for the shoppers' post on the Chamber’s Facebook page and thanks for helping your communities thrive! Entries will be accepted from Small Business Saturday through January 1, 2018!
BACCC Sock Drive

Thank you for your help!
SFCU Sock-In-A-Box Campaign 2017
seaboard logo
Seaboard Federal Credit Union is seeking donations of new socks for their Sock-In-A-Box 2017 Campaign taking place at our three locations - 177 Main St. in Bucksport, 200 Main St. in Ellsworth and 2410 Rt. 2 in Hermon.
Seaboard has also partnered with The Grand in Ellsworth for their holiday performance It’s A Wonderful Life Live Radio Play as a drop off point for donations and to help promote the four performances. Our goal is 1000 pairs of socks. The Sock Drive runs through Friday December 15th 2017.
Seaboard will be collecting new socks again this year for The Bangor Homeless Shelter, The Shaw House in Bangor and the Emmaus Center in Ellsworth. So pass the word and make a new holiday tradition to stop by The Grand in Ellsworth to see a live performance of It’s A Wonderful Life Radio Play and drop off a new pair of socks.
A simple pair of new socks for someone less fortunate can make it easier to face Maine’s cold winter days. Help the staff of Seaboard Federal Credit Union create many smiles this holiday season.
Please go to Seaboard Federal Credit Union’s Facebook page or click here and look for our Sock- In-A-Box post for more information or call 800-639-2206 ext. 1201 to speak with Johanna Dorr.
Remember It’s A Wonderful Life when you donate a pair of socks.

FREE Senior Exercise Class Begins in Bucksport in January
Seniors, Be Safe and Become Stronger through Bone Builders
In collaboration with the Bucksport Area Senior Center, the University of Maine Center on Aging is planning to offer a free senior exercise class beginning in January called Bone Builders through its Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP). The class will be held Mondays and Wednesdays from 1-2:30pm.

Osteoporosis is a condition in which bone mineral density decreases, resulting in the bones becoming thin, brittle, and easily fractured. According to the National Institutes of Health, 10 million Americans already have osteoporosis and 34 million more have low bone mass, placing them at increased risk for the disease. The RSVP Bone Builders Osteoporosis Exercise and Prevention Program is an evidence-based program originally developed by researchers at Tufts University who found that adults can improve their strength and fitness at any age. Researchers have demonstrated that this low-impact weight-training exercise program can improve balance, bone density, and muscle strength, and promote increased leisure time physical activity in seniors. These improvements reduce the risk of falls which can have devastating health and financial effects on older adults, in some cases, compromising their ability to live independently.

Bone Builders requires two trained leaders. We are looking for candidates who are 55 years of age or older, with medical clearance, willing to undergo training both in leadership and in conducting osteoporosis education and exercise classes. Once trained, the lay leader will undergo periodic monitoring and a yearly retraining.

Bone Builder classes accommodate 12-15 male and female participants who are 50 years of age and older with stable health (medical clearance is required). Classes run one and a half hours and meet twice weekly for six months or longer.
If you are interested in leading or attending a Bone Builders class in Bucksport, contact Paula Burnett at the UM Center on Aging RSVP at (207) 262-7926 or paula.burnett@ maine.edu .
RSVP Bone Builders receives partial funding from the United Way of Eastern Maine and the Corporation for National and Community Service.

And intensifies commitment to delight customers and meet their evolving banking needs.

Camden National Bank recently announced the launch of a new customer experience initiative called CamdenCircle, aimed at continuously collecting and processing customer feedback in order to meet customers’ evolving needs. CamdenCircle brings to life the bank’s vision of providing simple, secure, and innovative banking products and services. As the CamdenCircle effort has developed, customer loyalty has increased significantly as measured through ongoing listening channels, including customer surveys and a newly launched feedback submission portal.

Chief Experience & Marketing Officer, Renée Smyth shared, “In today’s financial services landscape, we recognize that it isn’t enough to offer incredible customer service alone. At Camden National Bank, we also strive to empower our customers to bank the way they want with innovative products that make banking convenient and secure. CamdenCircle is our commitment to listen to our customers and employees for the input that shapes how we do business and implement new technology. CamdenCircle functions as a positive feedback cycle—as our customers and employees speak, we continue to develop products and services that speak to them.”

Last year, Camden National Bank was the first Maine-based bank to offer 24/7 live phone support and to issue 77,000 EMV chip debit cards with enhanced fraud detection. Seasonal Affective Disorder

Too often, Mainers disregard symptoms of Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) as simple the "winter blues." Prolonged feelings of sadness, changes in appetite and weight, low energy, and loss of interest in activities you once enjoyed are just a few symptoms of SAD that people may experience during the change in season.

David Harlan, LCSW, will explain when the "winter blues" could be something more serious and will discuss treatments available, such as light therapy, antidepressants and exercise therapy. As always, light refreshments will be served.
