Holiday Refuse and Collection 
Rock Island City Hall will be closed on Thursday, November 23 and Friday, November 24, 2017 in observance of the Thanksgiving Holiday. Refuse collection will be on schedule Monday the 20th through Wednesday the 22nd, rest of the week is one day late. Curbside recycling will be on schedule Tuesday and Wednesday, rest of the week will be one day late. Also, all locations of the Rock Island Library will be closed on November 23 and 24. The City wishes everyone a happy and safe Thanksgiving Holiday!
28th Annual Quad City Christmas Arts & Crafts 
On November 24, 25 and 26, 2017 the QCCA Expo Center will hold their annual Christmas Arts and Crafts Fair. There will be 200 exhibitors showing off their handcrafted products. Friday and Saturday the fair will be open from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm with Sunday being from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. New unwrapped toy gets free admission to the event with tickets being $5.00 a piece. Holiday Lighting Contest 
The City of Rock Island's Beautification Commission is sponsoring the 32nd Annual Holiday Lighting Contest. To nominate a residential or commercial light display, send the name and address of the display via e-mail to [email protected] or call (309) 732-2905 by 5:00 pm on Wednesday, December 6, 2017. Judging will take place on the evening of December 11, 2017 when all displays should be illuminated by 5:30 pm. Winners of the 2015 and 2016 Holiday Lighting Contest are not eligible.
Winter Night, Winter Lights 
The Quad City Botanical Center is starting a new tradition for the whole family; Winter Nights, Winter Lights throughout the month of December. The Botanical Center's gardens will be in winter bloom with thousands of glowing lights. Bundle up and stroll the gardens or bring the kids for crafts, or just plan a visit to one of the special events. To learn more about the special events, please call (309) 794-0991.
