If you still haven't registered, do it NOW to be on the list for (re)certifying as an EcoSchool. It is quick and painless! All you need is a contact name, role, TDSB email address, and a password that's easy for other team members to remember.
If EcoSchools staff do not hear from your school by
December 15th
, you will not be eligible to have an audit and become (re)certified this school year. Please join us.

Growing New Supports for EcoSchools Teachers!
|
It's official! The EcoSchools Program is proud to announce its new collaboration with the Environmental & Sustainability Education Initiative at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education (OISE) at the University of Toronto. Starting this fall, OISE will be offering a variety of professional learning opportunities for TDSB teachers to support their important work in classrooms. In 2017-18, K-12 teachers, staff and administrators can participate in 20 plus after school talks and workshops at OISE
on a wide range of topics, from nature-based inquiry, to food literacy, and waste education (registration for these is on Key
to Learn.)
Teachers can also attend the free EcoSchools conference with colleagues, involving keynote talks, experiential workshops, and an EcoFair; this year it takes place on Jan. 27, 2018. The collaboration will also support Action Research projects in TDSB classrooms, aiming to cultivate promising practices in EE across the board.

This one day conference has been created with TDSB EcoSchools'
teache
rs in mind! It provides professional learning in Environmental Education to support the important work of the EcoSchools Program. A keynote talk, twenty interactive workshops and an EcoFair will provide ideas, strategies, and resources for connecting health and wellness to Environmental Education in
K-12 classrooms.
Registration is FREE for TDSB employees, and lunch is included.

December 5th at 6 pm: TDSB Environmental Sustainability Advisory Committee (ESAC) meeting

he TDSB'S Environmental Sustainability Advisory Committee (ESAC) was formed
by the TDSB in 2010 as part of the Go Green Climate Change Action Plan. The Committee was created to help inform the TDSB's environmental policies and programming. Since forming in 2010, impacts of the ESAC have included:
- Successfully advocating for the TDSB to adopt a strategic direction focused on the environment
- Providing direction on the TDSB Charter for Active, Safe, and Sustainable Transportation
- Advising on programming regarding professional development for ecological literacy

Toner Bottle and Ink Cartridge Recycling Tools

EcoSchools Section 3: Question 3.8
Schools and centres can recycle empty toner and ink cartridges to minimize their waste following these three different process:
Ricoh Canada collects and recycles the toner bottles used in their photocopiers as part of its contract with the TDSB. To support this process, Ricoh Canada provides TDSB schools and centres with toner boxes for collection of the empty toner bottles. Review the Photocopier Toner Bottle Recycling tool for detailed instructions on how to properly recycle Ricoh toner bottles.
RISO ink cartridges are now being picked up by the technicians. To make arrangements for the pick-up of the empty RISO cartridges review the Duplicator Ink Recycling Cartridge tool and contact Debbie at Bryte Com at

TDSB educators are invited to participate in OISE / UofT Environmental and Sustainability Education's Speaker Series. Be inspired by a wide range of topics and expertise broadening your knowledge of environmental and ecological literacy. Participating TDSB educators and OISE teacher candidates will have opportunities to deepen their EcoSchools network as well as meet and learn beside other passionate practitioners.
Most events are free, however, TDSB staff please register on Key to Learn for each session.

Description:
Many educators find themselves in a difficult place: working in a traditional paradigm based on a subject-based, command and control approach to learning, but wanting to move toward a transformative understanding of learning. Being able to grasp, articulate, and professionally maneuver within this duality is essential to making a positive contribution to learning that supports citizenship and sustainability. In this daylong session we use inquiry to explore the traditional/transformative learning challenge, examine inquiry key strategies, and investigate their application across all grades.

3-Part Virtual School Garden Workshop
