The Skokie Home Scoop  - November 21, 2017

Dear Skokie Families,
As we head into the long Thanksgiving weekend, I wish all of you a restful and enjoyable holiday. For those of you traveling this week, be safe and enjoy the time away. I am certainly grateful for our school community, the generosity and support of our parents, the curious and creative nature of our students and the unwavering dedication of our teachers. Enjoy the time away to celebrate what you are most thankful for. We look forward to everyone's safe return to school on Monday, November 27.

Most Sincerely,

Kelly Tess

Cold Weather Gear for Students
Now that the cold weather is officially upon us, this is a great time to remind our families of our practices when it comes to chilly temperatures.  We ask that students come to school with a coat, hat and gloves in order to safely play outside.  When there is snow on the ground, students interested in playing in the snow will need to have boots and snow-pants as well.  We will not send students outside for recess when the temperature (including wind chill) dips below 15 degrees.  Please also keep in mind that supervision of children does not begin until 8:10am in the building.  Thank you for your help in keeping our students safe and warm!

YOUR HELP IS NEEDED IN KEEPING
OUR STUDENTS SAFE

We continue to witness unsafe choices made by drivers during student drop-off and pick-up times at the intersections of Elm/Glendale and Oak/Glendale.  Please keep in mind that the crossing guards staffing those intersections are staff members out to protect our students and see them safely into or out of the school building.  While we know our families are busy and often hurried, we ask that all be mindful and respectful of the stop signs both at the intersections and those held up by our crossing guards.  We thank you for your help in keeping our staff and students safe, especially as winter approaches and the weather presents new challenges.

We'll discuss what it means to have rigorous standards for listening and communicating in math, how exposure to multiple approaches supports successful students to be sense-makers with deep understanding who never hit that "math wall," and how math-intensive careers require students to be able to problem-solve collaboratively and support their math skills with strong interpersonal skills. Future Ready D36
As is always our goal in Winnetka, keeping our students at the center of all that we do is vital to the Future Ready D36 process. The Future Ready D36 Core Team has toured several schools in and around the North Shore as part of their research on how facilities and learning environments best meet the needs of students today and prepares them for the future. Here is a glimpse into some of the spaces toured so far (including New Trier High School, Sunset Ridge, North Shore Country Day School, and Lane Tech College Prep).
