By teaching foundational skills in literacy as tools to strengthen creativity and self-expression, Young Playwrights' Theater (YPT) provides a platform for young people to put their dreams down on paper, to imagine themselves in others' shoes and to take ownership of their educations, their choices and their futures.
Providing our young people with a diverse toolbox of reading, writing and storytelling skills is vital. W
hen a young person learns the power of their voice, they can take ownership of their education, their choices and their futures. This is what YPT builds: a lifelong foundation of learning, creativity and imagination for young people to succeed and thrive.

Hello, My Name Is at Rhizome DC. There, they saw how intricate set design helped shape the story and theater experience.
YPT students also got to see a preview performance of National Theatre's production of
Meangirls.Before the show, they talked with show creators Jeff Richmond, Nell Benjamin and Tina Fey!
Award-winning Egyptian Artist/Actvist John Milad Gad led a theatre and social justice workshop with YPT!
Legacy International Fellow John Milad Gad faciliated an insightful workshop that uses theatre and movement to explore issues of social justice with friends of YPT, Washington Parks and People and other members of the community. Together we investigated how art can help
individuals alleviate systemic and institional oppression within
their communities.
