KVMR Underwriter of the Month
"Striking it in Gold Country"
Art King & Prosperity Lanes of Grass Valley
It all started when his wife Sylvia noticed the Grass Valley Family Food Store on Henderson Street at Colfax Ave. was for sale and had the notion of converting it to a bowling alley. (The things you do for love!) And since that moment, Art foraged forward with a $5,000 down payment, a few investors and he hasn't looked back.
Prosperity Lanes also offers a pro shop with bowling ball sales and service, a video arcade for when your wrist needs a rest and a concessions bar serving beer, wine, burgers, Mexican food and his wife, Sylvia's homemade soups during the winter months - which is right about now!
Since September of 2001, Art has maintained a dedicated staff of employees, some who have been with him for almost a decade. It's all about fun, socializing and keeping moving. Seniors enjoy mid-week leagues and open bowling and younger people and families enjoy weekend birthday parties or late night hanging out.
Art believes he is providing our community with a necessary asset and social outlet. "A city needs a bowling alley - it's important." And even though he has had interested parties inquire as to him selling the building, he isn't ready to hang up his bowling shoes just yet...
