November, 2017 - In This Issue:
From the Desk of Our Executive Director
Thanksgiving is upon us.
Between the turkey dinner, trips to the airport, catching up with dear friends, and enjoying time with my family, I find myself reflecting this week on the past year and all that we, who care about our youngest learners, have accomplished since January. I shared with readers earlier this year about "faith," a word I choose to focus on at the onset of 2017. As this year wraps up, my faith in a spiritual sense, as well as in humanity, our community, and faith in the goodness of those around me has strengthened. I am in awe of the outpouring of support for early care and education in Alameda County from our legislators, county Supervisors, funders, nonprofit partners, and community members. I am optimistic about the partnerships, collaborations, and collective impact that I see happening in Alameda County. I am excited about how 4Cs and you, our friends and supporters, working together, have the potential now, and in the near future, to truly "move the needle" for our families with children, especially those furthest from opportunity. Thank you for being a part of the 4Cs of Alameda County family. Your support,  perseverance, and dedication to our agency and its mission helps me, and families who need and use our programs and services, keep the
faith.

In Partnership,

Renee S. Herzfeld

Health and Safety Trainings for Providers
Now Enrolling
4Cs is celebrating six years of offering health and safety training for child care providers. Class evaluations from attendees testify to the quality of our training and expertise of our instructors. Here is what attendees have to say:

"The instructors were very knowledgeable, thorough and positive. The class provided a hands-on experience and makes me look forward to pursing my education in child development" - K. Owens

"Both of the instructors are very experienced. They share real life situations in the class. I feel more prepared for emergencies" - Pam

Child care providers should ensure they are completing an approved EMSA course. Both the CPR and First Aid portions must be 4 hours course content each, totaling 8 hours. Not eligible are evening courses less than 8 hours or online training.

For 4Cs class schedule and registration, visit 4Cs  Online Event Registration

Some child care providers may be eligible for partial reimbursement. Classes are available in English, Spanish, and Chinese. Questions: call Cynthia at 510-584-3120 or email cynthiaf@4c-alameda.org.
VITA Seeking Volunteers
Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program Volunteers Needed !
Do you like helping people? Do you enjoy serving your community? Then the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program may be just what you are looking for. VITA is a program that involves volunteers from many walks of life to help taxpayers who cannot afford professional tax assistance. For over 15 years, 4Cs of Alameda County's VITA program has helped low-income families prepare and file taxes. VITA volunteers prepare income tax returns and provide information and referral to programs and services available at 4Cs of Alameda County.

There are many volunteer opportunities with VITA, even if you are not interested in preparing taxes. We need tax preparers, greeters, and translators (we are especially looking for volunteers who are fluent in Spanish, Mandarin, Punjabi, Farsi and American Sign Language). Volunteers must attend training sessions and devote 3-5 hours per week from January to April 15, 2018. Opportunities are available in Hayward. If you are interested in learning more about VITA volunteer opportunities, please contact Joni Chantigian, VITA Site Coordinator at (510) 690-2150 or vita@4c-alameda.org to set up a VITA information meeting.
