The Art of Giving

Big thank you to the TPC Storytellers!

The  Storytellers are the docents who give guided tours of the club's displays highlighting the great moments and milestones of THE PLAYERS Championship and TPC Sawgrass. Through their donations, the Storytellers have supported many local organizations in Jacksonville. AWAHIH is thrilled to be added to their list of local organizations to help. Since 2007 a total of $40,584 has been awarded to these Charities through the efforts of the Storytellers and the generous guests that visit TPC Sawgrass.
Kids giving to Kids!

Thank you  Bolles kindergarten art class and  Sandy Lake Junior High art class for the wonderful holiday art pieces.   Each piece was hung on a patients door to create some Holiday cheer.
Children giving back and making a difference in their own community is the gift that just keep  giving.

2015 Humanities in Medicine Symposium at Mayo Clinic

Thank you to our AWAHIH board for giving us the gift to attend this special conference.

The  symposium  was an eye opener for all who  attended. The AWAHIH Artists that attended were exposed to a showcase of innovative and unique arts in healthcare programs from around the country and Internationally.

Some of the symposium highlights included;   Keynote speaker  Richard Blanco -  United States Inaugural Poet took to the stage and reminded us that:
The Humanities bring us to a place of awareness where we dive deep into our stories that make us more connected to our own lives" and that making art allows us to connect with the world and tell our story.

Attendees experienced an innovative Arts in Healthcare workshop using the Harmonica.  Created by a musician and lung transplant recipient  for people in a Pulmonary Support Group.  Certainly a fun way to do breathing exercises.

Cathy Dewitt Artist in Residence from the UF Health Shands Arts in Medicine program spoke about "The Five I's of Entering the Room" which focused on ideas on how best to enter a patients room using Intention, Invitation, Intuition, Interaction, and Integrity.

A presentation was made by film maker Krista Lee Weller on her latest project which documents the transformation of current and former interns involved with Art with a Heart in Healthcare.

"My Mom said that when I was painting today it was the first time I smiled since I was in the hospital. I could have painted all day and did not want the artists to leave. When I paint, I don't think about the hospital."
