For St Luke’s Table participant Christmas gifts. Anything you could contribute would be greatly appreciated! Items may be dropped off during the week at 760 Somerset St (Bell Street entrance) between 8 am and 1:30 pm, before December 12 th . For children: colouring books, markers and crayons, gift cards McDonald’s), chocolate. PWRDF Myanmar
Crisis Relief Fund
for Rohingya Refugees 


More than half a million Rohingya refugees have recently fled extreme violence in Myanmar in search of safety. 
The Canadian Government will match donations to the Rohingya Relief effort on a 1:1 basis, retroactive to August 25 th , until November 28 th , so please consider a donation today. You may donate through St John’s with a cheque noting “Myanmar Crisis Relief Fund’, or online ( www.pwrdf.org/donate ) or by phone (1-866-308-7973. Thank you for your support!

Hike with The Rector

Saturday, Nov 18 th 10.45 am, Meech Lake
O’Brien Beach Parking Lot (P11) to Wilson Carbide Ruins


Join Beth+ in a late autumn hike! This is a well-maintained trail, 3 km each way, with only a few moderate hills, that will take about 3 hours to complete. Wear good walking or hiking shoes/boots and appropriate-to-the-weather layered clothing. Bring your camera, water, snacks and a lunch. We will stop at a pub for a warming drink afterwards!

Meet at either St John’s at 10 am to carpool, or at Parking Lot P11 to begin hiking at 10.45 am.

Please sign up in the office and indicate if you need a ride, are able to provide a ride, or are meeting us there ( office@stjohnsottawa.ca or call 613-232-4500 ext 10).


CONCERT
THE STRINGS OF
ST JOHN'S
Saturday, November 18 th – 2 pm,

This chamber orchestra will open their 20 th season with a concert of music by Vivaldi, Bach, Parry and Grieg. Conducted by David Thies-Thompson, the concert will feature violin soloist Elizabeth Peravalova, age nine, in the Bach Violin Concerto in A minor. Admission is free and donations are appreciated ( www.stringsofstjohns.ca). 


SOUP & SONG!
A Cornerstone Fundraising Event
Sunday, November 19 th ,
from noon to 2 pm, Hall

Please join with other parish members to share a meal (soup and bread), learn about the amazing work of Cornerstone and the plans for a new project that will provide 42 units of supportive housing for homeless women.

The recital by Peggy Lister will bring together two of Peggy's passions – Cornerstone and singing. The goal of the event is to raise funds for St John’s to ‘Adopt-a-Room’ at Cornerstone’s Princeton Ave project and is being organized by St John’s Affordable Housing committee.

NATIONAL HOUSING DAY CELEBRATION
Sunday, November 19 th ,
from 2.30 pm, City Hall

A special event at City Hall starting at 2:30 and followed by refreshments and entertainment. 
St John's will be presented with the Dr. Farook Tareen Award for raising the most funds at the May Tulipathon Walk.


Film Night:
"The Lady in the Van"
Sunday, December 3 rd  
4 to 9 pm
Come for an evening of fellowship and enjoy a potluck meal. We will be watching the film The Lady in the Van (2015) featuring Maggie Smith and then participate in a guided discussion. Transportation can be arranged and all are welcome to attend.

Rector’s Pub Night
Monday, December 4 th
6.30 pm, Army Officer’s Mess (149 Somerset Street, right across from the church)
Come and enjoy a drink and get to know folks. You are welcome to park in the lot beside the Mess and there is an accessible entrance. As we are renting the Mess, there will be an opportunity to donate towards the cost. (No jeans please).

You can help others whenever shopping for your groceries! Loblaws Gift Cards are on sale at St John’s on Sundays. Each year St John’s raises over $2,500 for affordable housing by selling these cards. These Cards may be used at any Loblaws, Superstore, Valu-mart, No Frills or Independent, and are available in different denominations ($10, $25, $50, $100)
