"Corporate Culture and Community"

Billy Salts, Magic Valley Electric
Business Plus held its 2017 Annual Meeting on November 9th at Clif Bar's Community Room. One-hundred people attended including local business leaders,  state and local officials, and those interested in economic development.

Magic Valley Electric , Clif Bar Bakery, and ReDox Chemical inspired us with examples of building corporate culture and community. Kelly Anthon, Rupert's City Administrator, explained their success with Operation Facelift, and Nathan Murray, Director of Economic Development for Twin Falls, encouraged keeping an open mind to future possibilities.

When unemployment rates are low attracting talent can be a challenge, but less so for these successful business leaders that encourage personal growth and community service. The leadership examples set by Billy Salts, Susan Potucek and Darin Moon are remarkable.

"What Message are we Sending?"

Connie Stopher, Executive Director of SIEDO, informed the attendees that SIEDO will be engaging members of the community to ask "What message are we sending?" and then develop a strategy for getting that message out.  Stopher listed these important factors for creating community:
  • The ability to meet people and make friends,
  • An area's aesthetics,
  • Sense of community and "welcome-ness," and
  • Social offerings.
She explained that "...these community factors are much more important to a person's emotional attachment to their community than their age, marital status, ethnicity, education, or occupation...and is mostly unaffected by the ups and downs of the economy."

Thank you to our meeting co-sponsors and host!
