Coding, Collaborating, & Connecting to Literature 

Elementary level teachers are introducing new STREAM (Science, Technology, Research, Engineering, Art, and Math) units of study to their students

One third grade class is exploring coding and collaboration through an innovative project built around the novel "The Wild Robot" by Peter Brown.
 

Drama Club Delivers Fast-Paced and Amusing Show 

John Jay Middle  School's Drama Club delighted audiences with " The Iliad, the Odyssey, and All of Greek Mythology in 99 Minutes or Less" this past weekend. The actors enjoyed it, too. 

"It's so much more than entertaining people," said Leigh, one of the actors. "It's about friends and the community. It's fun!"

John Jay Senior Is Siemens Competition Semi-Finalist  

John Jay High School senior Kailas Amin has been named a semi-finalist in the 2017 prestigious Siemens Competition, the nation's premier competition in math, science and technology for high school students. 

Amin summarized his project by noting that many random numbers fall short of the goal of true randomness. "My project looked at one aspect of the importance of that," said Amin. 

Teachers Focus on Best-Practices & New Methods

On Nov. 10, the day school was closed for students, your children's teachers attended a day of professional development led by colleagues as well as consultants.

Sessions ranged from teaching the new New York State Science Learning Standards to creating a safe learning environment for all students. 


District Offers Vaping Presentation on Nov. 29

On Wednesday, November 29 th, at 7 pm in the John Jay High School cafeteria, Richard Stumacher, Chief of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at Northern Westchester Hospital will present on the topic of vaping. All parents and community members are welcome and strongly encouraged to attend.
