INBRE Program Helps Support Research from Coast-to-Coast, Undergraduate-to-Professoriate

To strengthen biomedical science research nationally, the NIH recognizes the importance of recruiting across all 50 states. As part of this effort, the National Institute for General Medical Sciences has funded a project to develop research programs in states that are currently under-served. One of these projects, the IDeA Networks of Biomedical Research Excellence, shares its success in helping students, faculty, and institutions grow.

Health Sciences and Technology Academy: A Local Vector for Change in West Virginia
|
The Health Science and Technology Academy has supported mentorship to over 2,000 West Virginia high school students since 1998. HSTA aims to increase the number of WV college graduates in STEM majors, leading to increased numbers of health care providers and STEM professionals in underserved communities of WV.

The
Southeast Training Hub (SETH) is a grantsmanship program supported by the Research Resources and Outreach Core. This recent event was hosted by the RROC PI, Dr. Elizabeth Ofili, and her team. This two-day event held grant writing coaching sessions, and peer-to-peer mentor training.
