Annual Thanksgiving Feast for the Animals Thursday
Join the festive atmosphere and enjoy watching the Folsom City Zoo Sanctuary animals receive specially prepared Thanksgiving treats and meals starting at 11 a.m. Thursday, November 23. Regular admission fees apply; visit www.folsom.ca.us for more details.

Holiday Toy Drive for Families in Need
Bring holiday cheer to neighbors in need by participating in the Annual Christmas Toy Drive. The toy drive is organized by Folsom's Citizens Assisting Public Safety (CAPS), in partnership with the Folsom Police and Fire Departments and the Folsom Police Foundation. Toys and gifts collected are delivered to Folsom families in need by Folsom Police and Fire personnel in the days before Christmas. Help make the holidays special for local families in two ways:

Make a wish come true. Select an ornament from the trees in the lobby of the Folsom Police Department or Folsom Fire Department Station 35 to fill the specific wish of a child. Return the ornament and new, unwrapped gift to the Police or Fire Department.

Bring a gift of your choosing for a child, teen or adult. New, unopened and unwrapped toys, as well as new clothing or gift cards, may be dropped off at the Folsom Police Department or at the Folsom Fire Department Station 35.

The Folsom Police Department is located at 46 Natoma Street and Folsom Fire Department Station 35 is located at 535 Glenn Drive. Donated gifts can be delivered between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m. through December 8. For more information contact Jessica Hess at 916-351-3409 or jhess@folsom.ca.us .

Road Closures for Folsom Turkey Trot
The Folsom Turkey Trot, an annual 10K run and 5K run/walk, will require closures of various Folsom roads on Thanksgiving morning on November 23. The event benefits the Twin Lakes Food Bank, the Folsom Athletic Association's Never in Our Town Youth Scholarship Program, and the Johnny Cash Art Trail. The 10K run will begin at 8:50 a.m. and the 5K run/walk will begin at 9:10 a.m. Both events will begin  at City Lion's Park, located at 403 Stafford Street, near the Folsom Public Library and Folsom City Zoo Sanctuary. The courses are on Folsom trails, bridges, and streets, including Natoma, Sutter, Reading, and Leidesdorff streets. There will be various road closures on multiple streets and rolling road closures to allow traffic in or out. Police officers and course monitors will guide traffic and detour signs will be marked. View the course maps or visit www.folsomturkeytrot.com for road closure details and more information.

Ice Skate in Folsom's Historic District this Holiday Season
Lace up your skates for frozen fun in Folsom's Historic District this holiday season. Folsom's favorite ice rink encircles the historic railroad turntable and a tall, decorated Christmas tree. The Folsom Ice Rink is open daily from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., including Christmas Day. Skate, shop, dine and sip hot cocoa in the heart of Folsom. Learn more at www.folsomicerink.com.

Folsom Tree Lighting Events
Residents have two great options for family-friendly holiday tree lighting events. Palladio's tree lighting takes place Sunday, November 26 at 5 p.m. and the Historic District tree lighting is on Friday, December 1, from 6 to 9 p.m. Enjoy the spirit of the holidays in Folsom!
Keep Pipes Free of Fats, Oils and Grease this Holiday Season
The City of Folsom's Environmental and Water Resources Department reminds residents to dispose of food properly this holiday season. Fats, oils and grease-also known as FOG-can clog sewer pipes and cause overflows. Food items such as butter, gravy, meat fats, sour cream,
ice cream and salad dressings are considered FOG. Properly disposing of FOG will help avoid costly repairs to plumbing, prevent blockages in the City's sewer system and protect our waterways.
Tips for Properly Disposing of FOG:

Can it! Once cooled, pour leftover oils and grease into a sturdy
container like an empty coffee can or glass jar.
Scrape it! Before washing, scrape out fats, oils, and grease from pots and pans.
Trash it! Put fatty and greasy food scraps in the garbage, not down the drain.
For more information, call 916-355-8365 or visit www.folsom.ca.us/FOG.

Small Business Saturday is November 25
Celebrate and support Folsom's small businesses and all they do for our community.
When small businesses succeed, we all do. So each year on the Saturday after Thanksgiving, shoppers, business owners, and organizations come together to Shop Small and share the places they love with the people they love. Join the movement this November 25 by shopping small and sharing your favorite places!
