The Bond Passed, Now What?

UPCOMING EVENTS NOVEMBER
Thank you again to our community for supporting HSD's capital construction bond! We are all very excited and are working hard on next steps, which include preparing for the first bond sale. Because we must spend at least 85 percent of the bond proceeds within the first three years of the sale, and our projects are spread over five years, we will sell approximately two-thirds of the bonds on December 21, 2017, and the remainder in June 2020. Selling the bonds in two phases will not affect the tax rate paid by property owners. We are developing new areas of the website to keep you updated on this and all bond project developments, so stay tuned to
www.Hillsboro-Bond.org for more information.

HSD Completes First Round of Radon Testing |
The 2015 Oregon Legislature passed a law requiring schools to create and submit a
Healthy and Safe Schools plan by September 2016 that includes a process for testing all schools for radon by January 1, 2021. In early October, we completed the first round of radon testing and recently received the official reports, which are now posted on the
Environmental Testing website page (under Departments/Facilities). All ground floor rooms of the selected schools and district offices were tested and all came back at or below the concentration limit of 4.0 picocuries per liter (pCi/L) of air. The one space that tested at the 4.0 picocurie concentration, a staff workroom at West Union Elementary School, will receive follow-up testing per the recommendations of the Environmental Protection Agency and Oregon Health Authority.

Part of supporting good student attendance is creating a welcoming and inviting space for students to return to after they have been absent. Supporting students in this way not only benefits the student, but also creates systems that are easier for the teacher as well. Read more in this month's
