Dear Reader
Mr. Tromp was convicted in the court of public opinion with the assistance of the public relations officers working in the public relations departments of the public prosecutor's office. That is basically the gist we get from Cor Merx review of the
case of Mr. Tromp.
If you are ever accused of tax fraud, you are better off running than facing your accusers in a criminal court procedure. Another thought-provoking suggestion from
Merx's review.
What is the issue according to Cor Merx?
Tax cases do not belong in criminal courts. The Tax Director, Tax Inspector and the Tax Chambers are more than competent enough to settle tax cases. The Tax Department has adequate legal tools at its disposal to handle supposedly 'tax-fraud' cases. The bottom-line message of Cor Merx review is:
leave the criminal court for criminal cases.
There no winners in the Tromp case, except the justice system, as it proves the system works. But that is of no satisfaction for Mr. Tromp whose reputation is forever tainted despite the acquittal.
