Dear YTC Family Members,

 

It is with great sadness and a broken heart that I announce the passing of Coach Pat Rogers early this morning, after a long battle with cancer. Pat was home and surrounded by his family. He was 70 years old. Coach Pat started at YTC when it first opened in 1971 and has been the heart and soul of the club through his retirement this past September. Some of you may know him as that singing racquet stringer or the spirited tennis pro with the funky neon high compression socks. Court #4 was dedicated to Pat and his name shines bright and proud, illuminating our every move. Most likely he taught you, your kids and maybe even your grandkids. He volunteered in schools, public parks and homeless shelters. He helped out as Santa Claus for many years, offering gifts to thousands of children. He never gave less than 110% in anything he did. He high-fived the deli counter man daily and was given the nickname, Chief.  He was a great family man and treated his co-workers like they were his own. I worked side by side with him for 33 years and have been his student in the lifelong tennis lesson he gave to all of us, on and off the court. He'll always be part of YTC's family and an inspiration each and every day.

 

A church service is being arranged and details will be posted on our web site in a few days. YTC will have a public event in his honor this spring and it will coincide with a special initiative being established on Pat's behalf.  I know everyone's thoughts and prayers go out to his amazing family. He earned our respect and love. Coach Pat was the best!
