SPECIAL NEEDS PTSA FORUM. Tuesday, November 21, 2017. The Lake Washington Special Needs PTSA will host a forum about ABLE accounts, a way for your Special Needs student to save up to $14,000 per year without losing disability benefits.  Amy Patterson, who serves on the Governing Board of Washington State's Achieving a Better Life Experience (ABLE) program, will discuss the rollout in Washington State, and what it means for families.
Come early for Networking time with district administrators from 6:30 PM until 7:00 PM  
Meeting Time:  7:00 PM - 8:30 PM

FREE CHILD CARE (all ages) IS AVAILABLE:    If you would like to sign up for complimentary child care, please email smcenroe@lwsd.org at least three days prior to the meeting date.  Include your child's name(s) and age(s) and include "Child Care at PTSA /meeting" in the subject line.  Last minute drop-ins accepted only when space is available as determined at the meeting time.  There will be no food or drinks permitted in the child care area.

WRESTLING BOOSTERS STUFF THE TRUCK - 11/13. Stuff the Truck Donation Drive!  Clean out the Clutter and help the Wrestling Team at the same time. Simply bring your unwanted clothes and household items to the RHS Parking Lot after school Monday the 13th and we will take it from there.

YEARBOOK PRE-ORDER - DUE 11/18. Don't forget to pre-order your 17/18 yearbook.  Sale dates are November 1st to November 18th and January 8th to January 27th 2018. Cost is $65.  You can either purchase at the Bookkeeper's window or online under Parent Access.

THANKGIVING WEEK SCHEDULE - 11/20-11/24. For the week of Thanksgiving, please note the following schedule changes:  
Monday- Normal schedule
Tuesday- No blocks, follow Monday schedule
Wednesday- No blocks, alternate schedule, 10:30AM release
Thursday- NO SCHOOL- Happy Thanksgiving!

ANIMAL CLUS PET SUPPLY DRIVE - 11/6 to 11/20. Animal Club Pet Supply Drive starts Monday, November 6th and runs through November 20th.  Teachers will be accepting donations such as: pet food, pet grooming supplies, pet toys and gently used blankets and beds.  You can donate to the teacher of your choice and the teacher who collects the most donations will receive Krispy Kreme Doughnuts to distribute.  Thank you for donating to pets in need!  If you have any questions, please contact the Animal Club president, Karissa Stevens.

DRAMA BOOSTERS.  Supporting RHS Theatre Arts.
November 17 & 18, 7pm - RHS students perform improv! JET CITY Improv was founded in 1992 by Andrew McMasters and Mike Christensen, as Seattle's own improvised comedy show: more games, more comedy, no points or rules. As the show gained popularity, so too did their desire to spread the power of improv to the community! Their mission is to educate, enlighten, and entertain audiences through the art of improvisation. At Redmond High they've been doing just that! Come see two great nights of drama as RHS students perform improv! PAC tickets are $5 at the door.
Upcoming Auditions for the Music Man! Audition workshops December 1-4, 2:30 in the PAC. Auditions December 6-7, 2:30pm in the PAC. Callbacks December 8, 2:30 in the PAC. 
Audition Requirements:  Performed in groups of five. Requires 32-bar cut of musical theatre song (a cappella) or verse and chorus (a cappella). Prepare a one-minute story (fiction or non-fiction) from your life/personal experience. For questions contact Mr. Toews at btoews@lwsd.org

JOIN REDMOND POLICE LAW ENFORCEMENT EXPLORING. Redmond High School students, in 9th grade - 12th grade, are invited to join Redmond Police Exploring. Law Enforcement Exploring is a national co-ed career education program for youth in 9th grade -20 years old. Mentor with Redmond Police Officers and participate in activities with other youth interested in a career in Criminal Justice or Law Enforcement. Meetings are 1st and 3rd Tuesday of each month: 7pm, Redmond Police: 8701 160th Ave NE. For additional Information, contact Redmond Police Officer Kevin Kaptur at 425-556-2500. 

Join Redmond Fire Fighting Exploring. Redmond High School students are invited to the Redmond Fire Dept. Exploring Open House & Join Night. Tuesday, November 14, 2017, 7pm. Redmond Fire Station 17: 16917 NE 116th St, Redmond. Take a tour of the station, learn about 2017-2018 events and meet current fire fighters.  Fire Fighting Exploring is a national co-ed career education program for youth in 9th grade -20 years old. REFLECTIONS 2017. Flyer. Website. Share your creativity with the world by participating in next year's Reflections program!  The Reflections Program is a National PTA and Washington state PTA cultural arts competition and a wonderful way to express yourself. Choreograph a dance, produce a film, write a poem or story, compose a song, take a picture or create a piece of visual art and tell us your interpretation of the theme: "Within Reach". NORMAN ROCKWELL ELEMENTARY is looking for highly qualified and exceptional Redmond High School students to be counselors for their outdoor education program. 
Outdoor Education is a three-day camp experience for fifth grade students. This year camp will be from Wednesday May 30 through Friday June 1.  Applications are now available and can be picked up in the College & Career Center (room E111).  Completed applications are due no later than Friday December 1st.  Questions?  See Ms. Snyder in the Center or e-mail: asnyder@lwsd.org. ASVAB TEST SIGN-UPS: Interested in taking the ASVAB  ?  The test is free and will be given the morning of Thursday November 30th here at RHS. The ASVAB is an aptitude test developed and governed by the U.S. Department of Defense.  It stands for Armed Services Aptitude Battery.  There are 3 different versions of the ASVAB.  This will be the students ASVAB which serves as a career exploration tool in addition to identifying military aptitude.  Although the test is administered by the military, it is not (and never has been) a requirement that a test-taker with a qualifying score enlist in the armed forces.  The test is free and pre-registration is required.  Stop in the College & Career Center - E111 to sign up.

PARENT WORKSHOP. Flyer. On Wednesday, November 15, 2017 from 6:30-8:00 PM, the Lake Washington Schools Foundation hosts another "Find Your Fit" workshop for Lake Washington School District families. Presented by Mary Pat O'Neil of True Fit College Counseling, this free event will not only help parents understand the steps involved in applying to college, but also teach them how to help their student find the right college fit. COLLEGE PLANNING CLASSES. 7pm November 16th at Redmond Library. This information packed class will focus on high school juniors and will address the following:
  • Helping students decide which colleges to apply to. 
  • What the more selective colleges really want to see in your student's application. 
  • Why standardized tests are important and which one to take; the SAT/ACT. 
  • How to maximize your student's potential to receive scholarships, grants, and other forms of gift-aid.
  • Illustrate to families how to attend a PRIVATE COLLEGE for a Public College Price.

CITY OF REDMOND TEEN PROGRAM.
Wed Nov 22nd 2pm: Turkey Days Festival at the Old Fire House Teen Center (entrance on 80th St & 165th Ave next to NAPA Auto Parts). Let the Old Fire House kick-off your Thanksgiving weekend! Have some fun the Wednesday before Thanksgiving with games, crafts, pie, funny presentations and more to get you in the Thanksgiving spirit! Email ofh@redmond.gov for details. 
Teen Science Cafe will be running an educational STEM event in downtown Redmond 7pm Wednesday, November 15th! Flyer.

Study Lab is a vital program providing homework help and a safe workspace to many students at Redmond Middle School, and we need high school and adult volunteers to make it possible. Volunteer tutors needed in all subjects Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays from 2:00-3:30 in the RMS library. Only one day/week commitment necessary.
