St. Michael's Academy
  :

It was a quiet work week here at St. Michael's Academy with the exception of our middle level Living History Museum that took place on Tuesday evening.

Thank you to all the parents who attended the event. The students did an impressive job on their exhibits and this is a perfect example of the project-based learning that we do here at St. Michael's. It's also the type of learning that students will remember for years to come.  It is so fulfilling to watch the students mature year after year and I was so proud of how they rose to the challenge of this event. Everyone was knowledgeable and spoke so eloquently about their chosen subject.  Great job students! Please see the photos farther down in this newsletter.

We are also rolling out our big "signature item" for the 2017-18 school year which will be a sweatshirt. Please see below for further details and remember...this will be offered for a limited time only!  Order yours today!

I'm sure we are all looking forward to the two day school week next week.  Enjoy a great weekend.

Peace,

Ann E. Dougal
Principal

From The Classroom of Mrs. Bedore - Grade 6

Living History Museum

What a wonderful turnout at Tuesday night's Living History Museum presented by our middle level students! I think everyone in attendance will agree that the students created some fantastic and memorable projects.

The exhibits ranged from the Old Stone Age to modern times. The students learned about their topics then displayed their knowledge for all to see. Many dressed in costume to represent their chosen historical figure or era. I must say that students were very well prepared and were able to answer the questions of our visitors.

Thank you all for coming out and supporting us. You could see the appreciation on the faces of the students as they shared their knowledge. And to all the students... great job!

 Grade 7

7th Grade Heads For The Hills

This week grade 7 made the trek to Cobble Mountain to experience nature first hand. They were able to locate and identify the different organisms that are home to the Cobble Mountain reservoir watershed.  In addition, the students were able to tour the water filtering plant and see how millions of gallons of water are cleaned and sanitized for our protection.

Fun was had by all!

Blizzard Bags

Blizzard Bag Buzz

What's all the buzz about blizzard bags?

Blizzard bags are a new initiative here and at other schools in the area and are designed to maintain the academic rigor of the school year. Winter is the time of the year that students are fully engaged in learning and we want to keep that momentum going.  Adding snow days on to the end of the school year when it is hot and students have a hard time concentrating, is counter-productive.

Watch for a letter and the blizzard bags to come home with your child at the beginning of December!

Christmas Concert

The Christmas Pageant Is Coming!

It's hard to believe that Christmas is around the corner!  And with Christmas comes our annual Christmas Pageant. Mark your calendars for December 12th and 13th and keep the 14th open for a snow day just in case.  The students have started to rehearse and all songs can be found herePlease feel free to have your child practice at home - you can never sing too much!

And speaking of the Christmas Pageant, Mrs. Duplessis is looking for someone who can  play on  Wednesday  night - either trombone, baritone, or tenor sax, preferably.  It would be great if they're available for the rehearsal  on Monday  during the day, as well.  Anyone interested, please contact Mrs. Duplessis at ext. 1130.

 Pope Francis Placement Test

 Food  For Thought

"The Lord manifests Himself to those who stop for some time in peace and humility of heart. If you look in murky and turbulent waters, you cannot see the reflection of your face. If you want to see the face of Christ, stop and collect your thoughts in silence, and close the door of your soul to the noise of external things."
