IT IS GOING TO BE A GREAT WEEKEND!
I hope everyone is ready for a fun, action packed weekend. ABYC has a “threefer” starting Friday night for the annual Celebration of Champions. During this celebration we handout Burgee awards for sailing champions, and Bell Ringer awards for those that have gone the extra mile or brought distinction to ABYC. I hope everyone can make it down Friday evening to help our winners celebrate their much deserved awards. Plus you don’t want to miss our Junior Staff Commodore offering words of encouragement to the happy, but sometimes timid Bell Ringers.
The second epic event is our world famous Turkey Day regatta. If you aren’t planning to sail or volunteer you should come to the club just to hang out. The excitement exuded by all the participants is infectious! Just being there in the morning makes me feel good. I know that I am not the only weirdo that feels this way. Come on, admit it. You know what I am talking about!
Finally the third event in our Threefer is the famous Turkey Day dinner. Once again we will be feeding 250-300 hungry sailors, volunteers and friends. This is a great opportunity to be served a traditional turkey dinner by your ABYC board of directors and other luminaries. You can sit down and rub elbows with the sailors as they relive the events of the day, throw in your own sailing adventures, and top it off with multiple pieces of pumpkin and apple pie. Oink!
And…did I already say finally? What you could call the fourth even of our Threefer (I’m so confused) is the Turkey Day awards ceremony. We start it off with a packed bar. Then the staff feeds us yummy turkey leftovers which are much appreciated after another tuff day of sailing. The conclusion to this epic weekend is “the presenting of the turkeys.” This is when the sailors get their much deserved awards and the time that Dave Shack and Steve Mueller can breath-a-sigh-of-relief. I hope to see all of our members at some point this weekend!
