We Open Doors...

Support the Next Steps

On this Giving Tuesday, during the Central Library's centennial year, please consider making a once-in-a-century gift to the Santa Barbara Public Library! Giving is quick and easy online, and gives you a chance to see the beginnings of the foundation's beautiful new website!

It's been a banner year for the Santa Barbara Public Library Foundation. Our first fundraiser, "Cocktails & Culture: A Centennial Celebration" (more below) raised $150,000 in support of the foundation's Next Steps Projects at the Central Library. If you have already given this year we thank you; if you wish to give again we thank you even more. If you haven't had a chance to give, we hope that you will do so today. Our goal: to raise $50,000 more by year's end for a strong start in supporting the library for the next 100 years!

Please give today to support these critical projects at the Central Library:
  • The Teen Center
The tympanum over the original entrance doors on Anapamu Street.
  • Re-opening the Second Floor Patio
  • Restoring the artwork over the Central Library and Faulkner Gallery's original entrance doors
  • The Library Plaza Project
  • Fulfilling the Children's Library endowment

Thank you!

Party goers were welcomed by Santa Barbara Public Library Foundation Board President Anne Howard, learned about the services a 21st century library provides from Library Director Jessica Cadiente, in conversation with the first Library Director, Frances Linn (as portrayed by Senior Librarian Jody Thomas), enjoyed a poetry reading by former Poet Laureate Sojourner Kincaid-Rolle, details about the foundation's Next Steps Projects from Foundation Director, Ellen Pasternack, and responded enthusiastically to Geoff Green's paddle raise requests. Mayor Helene Schneider, State Senator Hannah-Beth Jackson and Assemblymember Monique Limon's representative, and Congressmember Salud Carbajal, all presented resolutions in honor of the Central Library's centennial!

Many thanks to the Centennial Gala committee, Zora Charles, Chair, Katie Szopa and Dianne Duva, Co-Chairs, and the library staff, for working so hard to put this enjoyable evening together.

And a very special thank you to all of our
