Did you know?
The Feast Day of Saint Nicholas is this Wednesday, December 6th. His charity to the poor is still commemorated by those who follow the tradition of stuffing a boot or stocking with gifts. "Santa Claus" comes from the Dutch form of his name, "Sinterklaas." Saint Nicholas is the patron saint of children, sailors, and merchants.

From the Desk of Ellen Knippel, Principal
Dear Parents,
Happy First Sunday of Advent! We began our day today with lighting our Advent Wreath (Thanks to the 7th grade for leading us in prayer, and 1st grade for leading us in song). This is my most favorite time of year! The excitement is in the air - everywhere!
Our school Christmas tree is up (although very bare at the moment) and by the end of the week the temperatures will dip! As the weeks before Christmas drag on, the air will crackle with anticipation!
I have heard many stories about the "Elf on the Shelf" and the mischief he/she is making in some of our homes! Even more important, I am hearing stories about the beautiful Nativity sets you have in your homes. Help us to keep the CHRIST in Christmas! Ask your child daily how they experience Christ in their lives that day.
Finally, last week we had a wonderful opportunity to attend the movie
Wonder. This movie was exceptionally well done and really brought to life the book that we shared 2 years ago. Once again we remind students, when given the choice between being Right or being Kind - choose Kind!
A Blessed Advent to all!
Mrs. Knippel

M
uddy shoes are becoming a problem in school. Please send in full winter gear (boots, hats, mittens, scarves, and snow pants) in a separate bag every day starting now. Snow pants keep the mud off too - and your child will be prepared when the arctic winds start to blow!
School Tree of Kindness
Please be sure to send any acts of kindness you have seen your child perform during Advent (a simple email to Bonita or Mrs. Knippel) and we will be sure they get put onto the school Tree of Kindness.

Prayer
St. Nicholas was known for his abundant generosity to the poor; pray for an end to poverty. Remind us that what we do to the least ones, we do to You.
Thank You
!
A huge thank you to the Wimmer family and the 8th grade boys for raking an elderly couple's lawn on Thanksgiving weekend. The wife came in today with tears in her eyes expressing their joy in realizing "with everything that's going on in the world today, there are still good kids out there!" Thank you for representing our school so well!
