Congratulations to Cushing for being awarded the OML OU IQC Placemaking Grant!
Much of the damage from the November 2016 earthquake is still apparent, but that is all about to change. Cushing is one of the first six recipients of the OML's new grant in partnership with OU. Architecture students from the university will plan the historic communities' redevelopment, free of charge. The other awardees are Blanchard, Enid, Norman, Vinita and Wagoner. 
OML Board District 11 Call For Nominations
Deadline Friday, December 29th, 2017
The OML District 11 Board seat has become open as of November 7, 2017, due to the Honorable Richard Chapman's resignation from the Board. Nominations will be received until Friday, December 29, 2017 and will be presented to the OML  Board of Directors on January 10, 2018. More information and Sample Resolution here.
OML Holds District Dinner Meetings In Oklahoma City and Altus
OML hosted District Dinner Meetings in Oklahoma City at Cattlemen's Steakhouse Tuesday, November 28 and in Altus at Fred's Steakhouse on Thursday, November 30th. Over 125 municipal professionals attended the two events. 

The District Dinner Meetings were an opportunity for municipal officials to connect with other municipalities in the district and hear about the upcoming 2018 legislative session as well as the latest League happenings. Attendees had the opportunity to hear from the new Oklahoma Municipal League Executive Director Mike Fina and discuss municipal issues happening around the state.  

Fina said, "District meetings are an important tool for the OML team to reach out to Oklahoma communities. I am excited that during my first year as director we are increasing the number of these events to cover more areas of the state. Because we are a statewide organization it is critical that we visit as many municipalities as possible every year."

OML's Fina, Dean and Roberts Attend NLC Conference
OML President, Enid Mayor Bill Shewey, Executive Director, Mike Fina, Deputy Director of External Operations and Government Affairs, Missy Dean, and Programs and Legislative Specialist, Aspen Roberts, joined more than 40 Oklahoma municipal officials in Charlotte for the National League of Cities (NLC) City Summit.   Joining over 4000 municipal officials from around the United States, they participated in the 3 day event that featured discussions on topics including economic development, opiod epidemic, transportation and leadership development, arming them with tools and resources to plan for the future of their cities and towns.  Highlights of the event were listening to retired American astronaut and U.S. Navy Captain Mark Kelly and former state legislator and U.S. Congresswoman Gabby Giffords speak as well as Earvin "Magic" Johnson.
 
Roberts served as one of 10 NLC state league staff volunteers.  She said, "I had so much fun at the NLC City Summit in Charlotte. It was such a great opportunity and I was able to meet people from municipalities all over the U.S." 
Congratulations to Linda Rooney on Retirement After 51 Years With Midwest City
On Wednesday, November 15, OML's April Bradbury and Jamie Smith attended the retirement party for Linda Rooney who has worked for Midwest City the last 51 years. Also in attendance were Linda's family, coworkers, the Midwest City Fire Department, friends and the manager that first hired her 51 years ago. OML presented Linda a certificate of appreciation for over a half century of dedication to the city and Mayor Matt Duke issued a proclamation that this day in Midwest City is now and forever Linda Rooney Day!

Hazardous Waste Training From OSU and DEQ
The Small Quantity Generator Certificate Program will be held on December 14, 2017 at the Oklahoma State University - Tulsa Campus. This course is ideal for individuals and employees responsible for managing hazardous waste at small quantity generator facilities and would like to gain a better understanding of regulations and compliance for their facility. This is OML's popular annual course which provides municipal officials and staff with a non-technical  understanding of the annual budget process for municipalities and their role in that process. It is de signed to teach the legal and policy-related responsibilities in the annual budget process and provide practical examples for future reference in the budget process.  More Information
