The Bay Area's TOP Casino
|
|
The Bay 101 Casino held their Grand Opening last month and received a rousing welcome. The new $53 million building, which spans 68,000 square-feet on North First Street in San Jose, is now Feng Shui certified and uses energy-efficient lighting. "We're very proud of the finished project," said Rich Alvari, the Casino's director of sales, marketing and special events. "The lighting, the open space, the rich wood. The idea was to have a comfortable space; not the glitzy Las Vegas feel." The new Bay 101 Casino, at 1788 North First Street in San Jose, is also home to The Province, a Asian fusion restaurant from the owners of three upscale Santana Row eateries: Sino, Straits and Roots & Rye. |

Cementing his future as the quarterback for the San Francisco 49ers, Jimmy Garoppolo completed 26 of 37 passes for 293 yards and one interception as the Niners defeated the Chicago Bears, 15-14, on Sunday at Solider Field. Garoppolo's steady hand led to the winning drive starting on the 49ers eight yard line late in the fourth quarter and resulted in Robbie Gould's game-winning fifth field goal with four seconds left. San Francisco 49ers linebacker Reuben Foster delivers a solid hit on Chicago Bears' tight end Dion Sims. Foster would finish the game with a team-leading seven tackles. The second of two first-round draft picks, Foster (31st overall) was selected by the 49ers in this year's draft and has lived up to his glowing pre draft reports. Photo by Michael Zagaris. |

Oakland Raiders 24 v. New York Giants 17
|
On the first drive of the game Raiders (6-6) running back Marshawn Lynch ran for a 54-yard touchdown, while dragging New York Giants (2-10) cornerback Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie into the end zone. This was Lynch's longest run since 2014 and contributed to his first 100-yard game as a Raider. Final score: Raiders 24, G-Men 17. Photo by Ed Jay. |

Raiders defensive end Kahlil Mack stripped New York Giants quarterback Geno Smith of the ball and recovered the fumble, saving at least three points, as New York was within field goal range. Mack applied pressure throughout the day, causing Smith to hurry throws and scramble from the pocket. Photo by Ed Jay.

Some New York Giants fans travel very well. This fan shows his loyalty to Giants quarterback Eli Manning, whose consecutive starts ended Sunday against the Raiders at 210. Ben McAdoo, the Giants' head coach, has now been fired and his handling of the quarterback switch may have contributed to his dismissal. Photo by Ed Jay.

New York Giants coach Ben McAdoo was fired Monday morning after his team lost to the Raiders, 24-17. McAdoo is seen above at his last press conference after the Raiders game. The Giants have had a turbulent year, with consistent losses (2-10), inner team turmoil, and the controversial benching of two-time Super Bowl champion quarterback Eli Manning. Photo by Ed Jay. |

Oakland Raiders in the Community
|
For the second straight year, the Oakland Raiders joined with players across the NFL to wear custom cleats reflecting their commitment to charitable causes during their Sunday contest against the New York Giants. The NFL recently announced that players have the chance to share the causes that are important to them during all Week 13 games, as part of the NFL's My Cause, My Cleats campaign. The campaign will auction off their cleats at NFL Auction with 100 percent of the funds raised being donated to charities selected by players. Fans may bid on game-issued player cleats at NFL.com/Auction and help players raise funds for their causes. To learn more, visit www.nfl.com/mycausemycleats. The cause Raiders' owner Mark Davis is supporting is Domestic Violence Awareness, through the Biletnikoff Foundation.

Broad Based Oakland A's Civic/Booster Group Emerges
McKibben's covered facts and finances of the Coliseum complex, jointly owned by Alameda County and the City of Oakland. Speaking frankly about past and current challenges in retaining sports teams, he made a case for keeping the A's at the Coliseum site and shared his vision of building a new stadium complex to include a premium hotel and year-around entertainment. McKibben sees the Coliseum complex as a viable option for the A's, and he believes private financing is available to fund development of the entire complex.
During a frank question and answer, McKibben made clear the challenges the A's face, including the need to increase attendance to raise revenue. To the delight of the A's boosters in the room, Scott shared the A's commitment to holding on to talent by improving player payroll.

San Jose Earthquakes
|
The San Jose Earthquakes announced that the club has signed midfielder Anibal Godoy to a new multi-year contract. "Anibal has been a leader for our club on and off the field," said Earthquakes general manager Jesse Fioranelli. "He has a strong influence on every match he plays in and we made it a priority to sign him to a multi-year contract this offseason. We are happy he will be wearing a Quakes kit for years to come." Godoy, 27, originally joined the Earthquakes on Aug. 6, 2015. His arrival immediately sparked a four-game win streak that saw the Quakes outscore their opponents 9-0. In his 10 starts that season, the Quakes went 6-1-3, allowed six total goals, and remained alive for playoff contention until the final day of the regular season. James Logan / Union City

Toleafoa finished one kill off of her season-high on Nov. 25 when she thundered down 25 in a four-set win over Sacred Heart Cathedral-San Francisco and sent the James Logan Colts to their first CIF State Championship final. Toleafoa also posted 14 digs, 4 assists, 2 aces and a block in what would be Logan's 40th win of the season. The Colts (40-4), who suffered a gut-wrenching five-set loss to Monte Vista-Danville in the North Coast Section Div. I championship, found new life as the top seed in the CIF Northern Regional tournament. Toleafoa has been the Colts' consistent power source throughout the season and entered the team's state finals match against Santa Margarita-Rancho Santa Margarita (33-9) on Dec. 1 with 596 kills and 400 digs on the season.
