Amazing Photo History of Obama Presidency is One of the Holiday's Hottest Books

Obama: An Intimate Portrait by Pete Souza. The sales of this coffee table-styled book have certainly been influenced by tumultuous political times and the former president's popularity with at least half of the country . But it also stands alone as a stunning photography book. Souza was the Chief Official White House Photographer and the Director of the White House Photo Office d uring Barack Obama's two terms. Consequently, he was with the President during more crucial moments than anyone else - and he photographed them all. Souza captured nearly 2 million images of President Obama, in moments highly classified and in others disarmingly candid. This new volume presents more than 300 of the most iconic photographs with fine-art print quality in an oversize collectible format. Together they document the most consequential hours of the Presidency alongside unguarded moments with the President's family, his encounters with children, interactions with world leaders  and cultural figures, and more. It's quite a tour through an historic eight years.

By the way, there is also a volume geared to young people, Dream Big Dreams: Photographs from Barack Obama's Inspiring and Historic Presidency, which features 75 Souza photographs focusing more on family and interactions with children. If nothing else, check out the great cover photo of two young visitors to the Oval Office taking a selfie with the president. One tip - both these books will probably sell out before Christmas, so anyone interested should head to their local bookstore sooner than later.
Profiles of High Achievers Offer Mentoring, Good Advice

Tribe of Mentors: Short Life Advice from the Best in the World by Timothy Ferriss. Self-help guru Ferriss scored last year with Tools of Titans: The Tactics, Routines, and Habits of Billionaires, Icons, and World-Class Performers, and he returns with a new book of wisdom from 130 people he considers among the world's highest achievers. The counsel and advice is dispensed in short pieces featuring inspiring quotes, life lessons, career guidance, personal anecdotes, and more. It's a wide-ranging compendium of information that can be read in small doses and could make a good gift for a hard-to-shop-for person. Here are a few examples of what readers will learn:

- Why Arianna Huffington recommends that you regularly scramble the apps on your phone

- The three books that legendary investor Ray Dalio recommends most often

- The meditation and mindfulness practices of David Lynch, Jimmy Fallon, Sharon Salzberg, Rick Rubin, Richa Chadha, Sarah Elizabeth Lewis, and others

- Why renowned designer Debbie Millman believes in therapy but not in work-life balance

- How author Yuval Noah Harari's Sapiens went from repeated rejections to global bestseller

- Why bestselling author Steven Pressfield believes college students should drive trucks and become cowboys

- Why comedian Patton Oswalt wishes at least one catastrophic failure for anyone in the arts

- Why actor Ben Stiller likes to dunk his head in a bucket of ice in the morning

- Why Dropbox co-founder Drew Houston's cheat sheet for his younger self would include a tennis ball, a circle, and the number 30,000.
