Hi all

First I want to wish you all a happy holiday season and joyous new year in advance. This is a busy month so I am dividing the December newsletters into this one on Mercury retrograde, and then Part Two, which will come out mid-month, that will focus on Mars and the Nodes squaring the eclipse point of August 7 at the end of the year. Saturn will also have settled into their new sidereal and tropical signs.

There is information registration information below for Jyotisa Fundamentals Part 8 (Nakshatras) on Sat. December 9,  and my annual 2018 Sensitive Degrees Workshop on Sunday January 7. For the first time it will be held live in New York City and as a simultaneous webinar. So please sign on early since once I know how many people will attend live, I can book the appropriate venue. Note the difference in price for the webinar and on-line workshop.  If you look at the description you will see a preview of some of the important planetary signatures of 2018.

Please scroll down for all of the above and go to www.space.com for information about the SuperMoon of December 3rd (the same day Mercury stations retrograde), which is part of a trilogy of three full moons culminating in the lunar eclipse of January 31.

Once again a quick reminder to sign up for UAC 2018 (United Astrology Conference), the largest astrology gathering in the world that takes place every few years. It will take place May 24-29, 2018 in Chicago.

And if you are attending UAC, you can sign up for my pre-conference, which will be 3 1/2 hours long, about eclipses, eclipse cycles, and the three eclipses of the summer of 2018. Go to  United Astrology Conference 2018

Remember if you wish to book a reading just do so to your left.

Also remember that you can get notices from me through  twitter and  facebook. Just sign up.

And please remember that by staying subscribed to this newsletter, in addition to monthly newsletters about planetary weather, you will also get separate newsletters about horoscope sales, classes, webinars, etc., so if you are not interested in learning astrology, but do want to read the news each month, please do not unsubscribe, just delete the advertisements when they arrive.

All good wishes

Mercury/Budha Leaves Retrograde Arc or Shadow. Jan 10, 2018.
Tropical. 29°Sg18' R.   Sidereal. 05°Sg17' R mulā

The month begins with
Mercury retrograde, which occurs  for about 20-24 every 3 1/2-4 months. It retrogrades from December 3-23, as listed above in Greenwich mean time. Also listed are the dates of the retrograde arc, or shadow, periods which may be the beginnings and end of the effect of the Mercury retrograde and especially if it hits anything in your chart that lies between  Tropical. 13° Sg 00' D.  Sidereal. 18° Sc 59 and Tropical.  29° Sg 18' R, since it will go through the degrees in between the stations three times, when the planet moves forward, when it is retrograde and when it is direct again. If the station degree hits a planet, angle, or point in your chart, it will occur only twice.

Take note of the degrees of the span, and see where it occurs in your chart. Even if it does not touch a point in your chart, it will still occur in a certain house, and if you scroll down I have listed the meaning of the houses.

When Mercury is retrograde the world does not come to an end. You can in fact start and begin classes or projects, but you do have to take special care since it could mean that communication is misplaced, things do not reach you in time or at all, and you may have to remind people several times in fact that you have advertised for your class, or remind them that they have to respond to something you sent. You need to be cautious that messages do not get lost, and people's sensitivities are on high alert so be sure you are very clear communicating, and do not hesitate to repeat yourself. If you start a new job, or if you get a new boss, or a new team, this advice is especially important since you are getting to know each other. If you slow up your pace, and just understand that is a different reality for a few weeks then you should do fine, since the entire world is functioning now at that pace. Don't fight it, since you will then come up against more problems. If the retrograde hits something in your chart, then it just means it affects you directly, in addition to seeing how it functions in the world.

What makes this Mercury retrograde period special is that it is conjunct Saturn. And that means that because Mercury is retrograde it will conjoin Saturn three times. When Mercury is first direct on  Nov 28 at tropical 27 Sg 27/sidereal 3 Sg 26; when Mercury is retrograde on
Dec 6 at tropical 28 Sg 23/sidereal 4 Sg 22, and when Mercury is direct on Jan 13, 2018 at tropical 2 Cp 48/sidereal 8 Sg 47. Things might start to appear even slower, and more challenging, especially when it comes to communicating and getting things accomplished. Since Mercury rules business, it makes sense that certain moves and promotions might be delayed. If that Saturn-mercury conjunction at the degrees above hits something in your chart, then pay attention to these next six weeks, since even though Mercury goes direct on the 21st, the last Mercury Saturn conjunction occurs on January 13.

During 2018 there will be many planetary signatures to look at, which I will be doing in the annual 2018 Sensitive Degrees Webinar: Venus and Mars retrograde, Uranus changing signs tropically, and Uranus aspecting Venus three times during the retrograde Venus cycle. Most important, Mars and South Node-Ketu (which acts like Mars) conjoin three times during Mars' retrograde cycle.  Scroll down to register.

Part 2 of this newsletter will appear mid-month and will focus on Mars squaring the Nodes and the August 7th eclipse degree at the end of the year along with Saturn's entry into sidereal Sagittarius on October 25th and Saturn's entry into tropical Capricorn on December 20.

Below are some definitions of the houses.

The houses have similar meanings in both Tropical and Vedic astrology, but since there are some differences here is the list below of a few keywords for each house in each system. They are by no means exhaustive.

Early Bird in New York City through Dec. 17. $50/After Dec. 10: $60

This annual workshop is back for a look at the coming year which will be filled with so many planetary signatures that we should expect the year ahead to continue to be a bumpy ride. This year the workshop will take place in New York City and held simultaneously as a webinar. And as usual  those of you who cannot make it live will get complete handouts with charts and tables, audio mp3, and audio-visual mp4. As usual, these are from the point of view of both tropical and Indian (sidereal) astrology.

This year's webinar  2018 Sensitive Degrees: Stations, Eclipses, Ingresses, and Aspects  will be packed with information about 2018.  As usual, this Webinar will cover many of the degree areas of the chart that will affect you and the world including eclipses, retrograde and direct stations and cycles, ingress dates, and aspects. We will go through all of these providing you with charts and tables that you can use the entire year.

Because there are five eclipses, and retrogrades of Venus and Mars, I will NOT recap all the technical explanation for eclipses and retrogrades as I have in the past, but will go into the timing of these phenomena, the degrees to watch for, how they affect your chart, and some forecasts for the year.  The summer will be an especially crazy ride with eclipses, Mars retrograde, and Mars-Ketu (South Node) conjunction. Some planetary signatures are as follows:
  • Eclipses.  January 31, February 15, July 13, July 27, August 11. August 21
This year there will be five eclipses, with the eclipses of January 31 and February 15 as mirror or twin eclipses of August 7 and 21, 2017.  All the eclipses are part of the 18 year Saros cycle, and, except for the one on July 13, part of the 19 year Metonic cycle.
  •
  • Planetary Stations. In addition to annual retrograde cycles of Mercury, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto, this year there will be the important Mars retrograde June 26-August 27 and Venus retrograde from October 5-November 16. Mars retrograde will straddle Capricorn and Aquarius tropically and will only be in Capricorn sidereally. Venus retrograde will straddle Libra and Scorpio and will only be in Libra sidereally.
  • Aspects. Some of the more important aspects that repeat themselves are as follows.
Mars-Ketu (South Node) conjunction. This conjunction occurs three times because Mars is retrograde: June 8,  July 20, and  Sep 26 2018.  Even though Mars conjoins Ketu every 22 months, this is the third time since 1900 that Mars retrograde has conjoined the South Node. Other dates were:  December 11, 1932, March 9, 1933, May 9, 1933 and  Jan. 27, 1950, March 7, 1950, June 19, 1950.  This is significant since in Indian astrology Ketu, or South Node, takes on the qualities of Mars, so it is like having a double Mars. Mars-South Node conjunction occurred during September 11, 2001.
  •
  • Other important aspects this year include:
Mars square Uranus three times, Jupiter trine Neptune twice, Venus opposition Uranus three times.
  • Tropical Ingresses. This year Uranus is highlighted since it will straddle Aries and Taurus before it definitively enters Taurus in 2019. Jupiter enters Sagittarius on November 8.
  • Sidereal Ingresses. Jupiter enters Scorpio on October 10.
  • And so much more.
