The Tiger's Roar!
Tildenville Elementary School, Winter Garden, FL
Friday, December 1, 2017

Principal Alvarez
I hope this finds you having enjoyed a very Happy Thanksgiving with family and friends last week. While November was a shorter month due to the Thanksgiving break, it was a busy one and included some of our major special events such as the annual Teach-In and Hispanic Heritage Night. As the calendar below illustrates, this month is also filled with some very exciting activities that we encourage our school community to get involved with. The last day of the second quarter for students is Thursday, December 21 after which the students will begin their Winter Break. Please also note that i-Ready testing begins next week.

Thank you very much for looking over this latest issue of The Tiger's Roar! and have a wonderful weekend.

Dual Language Update
Recent lessons by grade level

Kindergarten
In science we are learning about: Movimiento de los objetos (Motion Of Objects.)
Vocabulario: Adelante, atras, arriba, abajo en zigzac y en circulos.

In reading we are learning about: initial sound and ending sounds. (sonido inicial y sonido final.) We are learning the skills compare and contrast (Comparar y contrastar las aventuras y las experiencias de los personajes.)

1st Grade
The students have been studying the different types of motions and forces (push and pull). At the end of the unit, students were able to do a S.T.E.M. (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) culminating activity. Students created a prototype of a piece of playground equipment that was going to be purchased by PTA (design challenge) that included motion and force.

First grade students created this prototype of playground equipment as part of their November science study on motions and forces. While difficult to see in this picture, the students wrote about their design in Spanish.

A pair of Ms. Ventura's 1st grade Dual Language students working on their S.T.E.M.
project last month.

2nd Grade
Dual Language is still working on same unit topic from last time - Vamos a aprender (Let's learn). We finished a lesson on school subjects and will start a new lesson on locations and activities in the school.

3rd Grade
We are studying different hobbies and cultural activities in school and the community in Honduras. We are also learning about conjugating the verb to be, as well as the differences between the "j" and "g" sounds in Spanish.

4th Grade
The students will describe their classes and their school supplies by imagining that they are attending school in Mexico. They will talk about how they spend their free time by sharing what they like to do, talk about a vacation by imagining that they are visiting tourist spots in Mexico, get information about events by using a webpage, and talk about special events and activities by using the verb venir.

5th Grade
Students are working on conjugating regular verbs.
