Lamorinda Night will celebrate the communities of Lafayette, Moraga and Orinda.  Attached is a special ticket offer we've created for local businesses and groups to join us for this celebration. The Bethlehem Experience at The Lafayette United Methodist Church
Performances 5:30PM-8PM, Dec. 15, 16, and 17, 955 Moraga Road

The Lafayette United Methodist Church presents an interactive performance that takes you back through time. Tour Guides will lead groups of about twelve people through the marketplace of Bethlehem on the night of the Messiah's birth. The Bethlehem Experience is a feast for the senses: the smell of exotic spices, the festive sound of music, the sight of robed and sandaled merchants in their stalls, the taste of freshly baked unleavened bread, live animals in the stable and the soft feel of flaxen "swaddling clothes". The Bethlehem Experience is a gift to the community from the Lafayette United Methodist Church, 955 Moraga Road, Lafayette. The program is a social event that emphasizes the spiritual meaning of Christmas. Performances 5:30PM-8PM, Dec. 15, 16, and 17. One-hour long tours begin every fifteen minutes. One Warm Coat Drive at Roughing It Day Camp

Roughing It Day Camp is collecting gently used coats and winter clothing of any size for One Warm Coat. Our office located at 936 Dewing Avenue, Suite G in Lafayette will be accepting donations between 9am and 5pm until Thursday, December 21. Help Save Homeless Lives Through Cold Weather Clothing Program

White Pony Express (WPE), headquartered in Pleasant Hill, has just launched its third Cold Weather Clothing Program (CWCP) for the upcoming winter.   The program's focus is to help the homeless in Contra Costa County endure the cold and often wet winter.

WPE's ambitious program, being handled by its "Free General Store" (FGS), is to distribute at least 10,000 to the homeless articles for the 2017-18 winter, such as warm coats, pants, shirts, socks, hats, gloves, scarves, underwear, and boots.  

WPE is primarily asking for monetary donations to help with purchases of clothing for WPE's Cold Weather Clothing Project.   These can be sent to White Pony Express, 1966 Tice Valley Blvd., #101, Walnut Creek, CA 94595.  Donations of coats, etc., are also being accepted, but they need to be new or like-new donations of cold weather clothing.   This excludes stained, torn, or clothing that shows wear.  Garments should be in a condition that might be given to a close family member.  Donations of new or like-new clothing can be delivered to Suite 101, 3380 Vincent Road, Pleasant Hill, during hours of operation listed here.

Volunteers are also needed for WPE's Food Rescue program, which picks up 5,000 lb. of surplus fresh food (fruits, vegetables, meat, dairy/deli/dry goods, bread/pastries and eggs) every day and then delivers it to nonprofits that feed the hungry in our county-all free of charge.  In just over 4 years, WPE has rescued more than 5,200,000 lb. of quality, nutritious food that would otherwise go to waste.

Seeking Volunteers for Homeless Point In Time Count!

Health, Housing and Homeless Services Division Contra Costa Health Services is seeking volunteers to help with their annual Homeless Point in Time Count in late January.  Volunteers will be trained on how to administer a short survey and then be stationed at specific community sites with other volunteers to conduct the surveys.  This survey provides valuable information on the scope of homelessness, particularly around the number of unsheltered people on the streets and the progress being made to end homelessness. It is also used by local agencies to help plan services and programs appropriately, address strengths and gaps, increase public awareness, and attract resources to help end homelessness.

Volunteers are needed to help conduct surveys on Wednesday, January 24th and Thursday, January 25th.  Volunteers who want to participate will need to attend a training the week of January 15th before being able to administer the survey, even if they've volunteered with the Point In Time count before.  We will be in touch with volunteer training information as the event gets closer.
