New Report: Operation Rugby Daemon Simulation of Potential Cyber Threats and Response
"Operation Rugby Daemon" was unveiled at the 13th Annual U.S.-Japan Critical Infrastructure Protection Forum (CIP) in Washington, D.C., offering insights into the state of preparedness of Japanese stakeholders in the face of a large scale cyberattack. CIP, which brings together government and private sector leaders from both countries for off-the-record discussions, audience members listened to exercise participants provide details about a series of simulated attacks on the 2019 Rugby World Cup, the players' responses, and recommendations for future protocols and procedures that government and the private sector should consider implementing immediately.

Sasakawa USA Partners with Center for a New American Security for Next SEED Trip
Sasakawa USA will
take a cohort of eight U.S. cybersecurity experts for a one-week study tour of Japan.
Participants will have the opportunity to meet their Japanese counterparts and engage in discussions on shared opportunities and concerns, as well as the future of U.S.-Japan cooperation in cybersecurity and innovation.

True Stories from Japan: Time in Tahara
Kentucky high school student Paige Long recently spent two weeks in Japan. In the latest edition of "True Stories from Japan," Paige shares how the experience changed her.
Paige writes: "I had the pleasure of visiting Japan for a two-week long trip with a handful of classmates from my high school in rural Kentucky. Part of me was quite nervous at first, and the thought of traveling around the world without the parental supervision that had surrounded me throughout my sixteen years made my palms sweaty. Yet I was elated to experience a new culture, new people, new places, and maybe most of all, good food."

Event Recap: Japanese Technology, Economics and Society: Implications for Climate Change and Clean Energy
On November 6, 2017, Sasakawa USA held an Alumni Roundtable Dinner as part of Sasakawa USA's Japan Alumni Program for a discussion on "Japanese Technology, Economics and Society: Implications for Climate Change and Clean Energy."
The discussion featured Umair Irfan, Staff Writer at Vox, and Jane Nakano, Senior Fellow for the Energy and National Security Program at the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS).

In the News: Sasakawa USA-Sponsored TTX Featured in a World Economic Forum Column
Sasakawa USA was featured in an article for the World Economic Forum for its participation in the Cyber3 Tokyo Conference 2017.
During the conference, Sasakawa USA sponsored a tabletop exercise simulating cyberattacks on the upcoming 2019 Rugby World Cup in Japan. The World Economic Forum published a detailed column highlighting the usefulness of the TTX in preparing effectively to thwart potential attacks. The article was also republished by EWN in South Africa.

Sasakawa USA is proud to help support J. LIVE Talk, which encourages Japanese language students to master their Japanese communication skills. College-level Japanese learners from across the United States delivered presentations to compete for scholarships, cash prizes and trips to Japan at the third annual J. LIVE (
Japanese Learning Inspired Vision and Engagement) Talk 2017, held on Sunday, November 5 at The George Washington University. Sasakawa USA hosted five of the semi-finalists for a lunch on Friday, October 13.

Policy Lunch Recap: Outcome of APEC 2017 and Recent Developments in U.S.-Vietnam Relations
Sasakawa USA held an off-the-record policy lunch on Wednesday, November 29, 2017. The lunch focused on "Outcome of APEC 2017 and Recent Developments in U.S.-Vietnam Relations." The discussion featured comments from Ambassador Pham Quang Vinh, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam to the United States.
Daniel Bob, Director of Programs and Senior Fellow of Sasakawa USA, moderated a Q&A session with the audience.
