The world is saying the season is here. As a matter of fact the world has been screaming that to us since Halloween. The season they refer is NOT here and won't be until December 25. However, we do begin another season this next Sunday, the season of Advent. Advent is a season of four Sundays prior to Christmas, and the theme is PREPARE. We are to prepare because the Lord has come, the Lord comes today, and the Lord will come again in glory at the end of the age.
As we prepare let me share with you one of my favorite prayers. It's from Pope John 23rd in 1963 in his encyclical, "Pacem in Terris" (Peace on Earth).
"May He banish from the hearts of all men and women whatever might endanger peace. May He transform them into witnesses of truth, justice, and love. May He enkindle the rulers of peoples so that in addition to their solicitude for the proper welfare of their citizens, they may guarantee and defend the great gift of peace."
May He enkindle the wills of all so that they may overcome the barriers that divide, cherish the bonds of mutual charity, understand others and pardon those who have done them wrong. May all peoples of the earth become as brothers and sisters, and may the most longed - for peace blossom forth and reign always among men and women. Amen."
I hope to see you Sunday, the first Sunday in Advent. Our sermon will be "Prepare - Be Ready" (Romans 13: 11 - 14).
"and the folks are friendly"

THANKS FOR FAMILY PROMISE DONATIONS
The response to the collection for a family at Family Promise was overwhelming. Pat Stoll had shopped for the family we had adopted, and your donations were double what she had spent. The Missions Team is donating the remainder to the Agape Fund to be used for UMCE members in need during the Christmas season.
THANKS TO DECORATORS
Many thanks to all of you who stayed after church last Sunday to transform the sanctuary into a winter wonderland. Special thanks go to Karen Ament for her skilled directions.

SHARING OUR CHRISTMAS TRADITIONS
Facilitator: Dr. Lorna Idol
Many people have established family and/or personal traditions for the Christmas season. We will gather together in the Spirit of Christmas and share the traditions we treasure. We will talk about our own childhood traditions and how we have continued with those or changed them to benefit our own families or our own lifestyles. We might also be adding to our own Christmas treasure chests as we learn how others in our Christian family celebrate Christmas and the birth of Jesus Christ as we munch on Christmas cookies and drink our hot chocolate.
