What Really Determines the Strength of a Team?
By Derek Vannice, President and COO

There are a lot of great sports analogies out there when we want to talk about a specific team. The ones I have always found useful are how a team reacts to winning and losing. Specifically, it is easy for everyone to be a team player when the team is winning on a consistent basis. When a team starts losing, it is easy to start blaming everyone else and not be supportive.

At CNUC, after a challenging start as a company, we have been fortunate to have some very successful years of growth. We were also getting some great feedback from our clients. As we continued to grow, we went through some major changes on our management team. I believe we now have the team in place that will make CNUC successful for many years to come.

By John Barnard, Consulting Utility Forester Intern

CNUC hired a Consulting Utility Forester (CUF) intern for the summer of 2017 named John Barnard. John, who interned with CNUC for six weeks in the Indianapolis area, wrote a summary of his experience.

My time with CNUC was an experience not lacking adjectives in my journal: invigorating, new, expanding, fun, hard, interesting, inspiring, rewarding, and many others. I was swept up by what felt like a whirlwind of new information and new people from the moment I started until I shook my supervisor's hand goodbye. I cannot say I have ever felt such a perfect storm and I feel truly honored to have been a part of CNUC for those six weeks. I genuinely felt many connections between the internship and education which encouraged me to tackle the myriad of new things coming my way every day. I would like to present to you a very brief overview of my actions each week, comments, takeaways, and how I felt that week went.

We use the phrase, "See something, do something" often at CNUC. Below is a perfect example why.

On March 21, CUF Tim McCunn was on his way to work, driving behind a van that was swerving, and continuously accelerating and braking. In the distance, Tim noticed a school bus that had come to a complete stop with its lights flashing. The van did not seem like it was preparing to slow down, so Tim began to slow down, anticipating an accident.

The van, traveling around 55 miles per hour, rear ended the school bus. At that point, Tim pulled over, put his flashers on and ran to the scene of the accident. His first encounter was with the bus driver who reported that no students were injured, so he went to check on the driver of the van.
