Alumni Campaign
We are looking for volunteers to help update our alumni list with email and postal addresses. It can be done from the comfort of your own home at a convenient time for you. The goal is to try to find 20 people who are willing to track down 20 alumni and get them on our electronic mailing list.

Are you able to help? Do you know of anyone who you think would be willing to help? Please let the office know.

Parent Teacher Interviews
We hope that the new system which was implemented starting in March last year made it easier for parents to book interviews with teachers. If you were not able to attend or meet with any of the teachers, please follow up with them to arrange a mutually convenient time to
meet or speak over the phone. If you have any feedback about the system or ideas for future conferences please let us know.
Akiva Family Menorah Contest

Kosher Menorah Guidelines:

1. 9 candle holders - 8 at the same height. The 9th, the shamash, is a bit higher or lower than the rest.
2. The 8 candles should be arranged in a straight line, or an even slant, not in a semi-circle or haphazard design.

Materials used...the menorah must be able to be lit. The materials used in the candle holders and base must be fire-proof and secure.

Please email Mrs. Hanit Jacobs for questions at [email protected].

Rabbi Halpern's Tzitzit Unit
Rabbi Halpern's Junior High Judaics class is 'wrapping up' our unit on Tzitzit!  The students are making their very own pair of Tzitzit incorporating the information that they have learned. Everyone is enjoying this unique opportunity of taking their Torah knowledge from the 'lilmod' of learning, to the 'laasot' of applying it to action.

Siyum on Parshat Shemot in Morah Halpern's Class
The Grade 6-8 girls celebrated a siyum on Parshat Shemot. They were split into two groups and each group decorated a cake in the theme of an event from the parsha. They had fun guessing what the other group's cake was depicting. Mazal tov!

Professional Development Day
This past Friday was the first PD of the year. Our teachers met to review curriculum goals and ways to improve student learning in our school. Thank you so much to Ms. Waseem for presenting an informative and interactive session on Resiliency and to Ms. Filewich for leading a session on Math. Our teachers enjoyed learning from each other and sharing ideas together.

Kindergarten and Grade 6-8 Girls Parsha Program
The grade 6-8 girls joined Kindergarten for a special Parsha program. The girls turned Parshat Vayishlach into a skit and performed it for the students. They then worked together with each of the Kindergarten students to make a 3D Kever Rochel for them to take home and display on their shabbat table. A great time was had by all!

Challah Program
We will once again be offering Challahs to Akiva families to purchase at a rate of $5 per Challah. By prepaying for 1 or 2 Challahs a week, your Challah will be sent home with your child every week baked fresh from the Carriage House Bakery. If you are interested you can prepay to receive challah starting January 12 until Pesach Break. Please note there will not be Challah on days where there is no school. Orders and payment must be received by December 15. The cost is $45 for one challah or $90 for two challahs.
