Dear all,
This is a great time to count your blessings and reflect and we at the Watauga County Public Library are doing just that! Last month, we hosted a Volunteer Breakfast for our numerous volunteers who help move the library forward in so many capacities. While planning for this event, it occurred to me that the main library opened its building in December of 1997, 20 years ago! We are fortunate to work with volunteers presently who were also volunteers 20+ years ago...who helped us with the planning and funding of this building; what a testament to your support and dedication! (you know who you are) A total of 5,264 hours with 260 volunteers were counted for the last year!
Pictured below are a few of our volunteer gems and attendees:
Jessie Cook, Lee Bernier, Tom Rokoske, Pat Morgan, Monica Caruso, County Librarian, Tish Rokoske, Melony Winkelmann, Loretta Clawson, Town Council, Jane Blackburn, Regional Director, Mary Sue Morgan, Jo Ann Hedstrom, Volunteer Specialist with the Red Cross, Blue Ridge Chapter, Rao Aluri and Mary Reichel.

This program features an interactive story time with professional costumes, a little music, a puppet or two, and some serious silliness!!! Immediately following the illustrated story of Dr. Seuss How the Grinch Stole Christmas (starring the real-life Grinch, of course) the audience will have the opportunity to meet the green man himself and his who-friends on Friday, December 1st at 4:00 pm.

Please join us for this Festive First Friday Art Crawl event taking place in the Meeting Room of the Watauga County Public Library from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm on Friday, December 1st. For more information about events that evening see Festive First Friday events.

Author Visit Robin Whitley
The Watauga County Public Library would like to invite you to join Robin Whitley for an author talk and book signing on Thursday, December 7th from 2:00 pm until 4:00 pm.

In her debut novel, "Finding Home: A Place To Belong", Robin set out to write a story that was more similar to the life lived in a rural setting. In her book, readers will catch a glimpse of life in the small Southern town of Pleasant Quarry located in the Piedmont region of North Carolina as the characters search for meaning and a place where all belong. A story that is a reminiscent mixture of "Fried Green Tomatoes" and "At Home in Mitford," this novel portrays a loving sense of community and home.

Robin is a writer and artist living in Western NC with her sweet mountain dog, Birdie. She holds an A.B. in music from Pfeiffer University and a Masters of Divinity degree from Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary (LTSS). Robin has been a writer from an early age and is the author of two works of non-fiction: "In A Southern Closet" and "More Than Knowing". Her essay on Contemplative Prayer was published in the Taproot Journal of LTSS.

Copies of "Finding Home: A Place To Belong," "In A Southern Closet" and "More Than Knowing" by J. Robin Whitley will be available for sale at the event.
