As a life-long resident and Realtor on Key Biscayne, I love sharing upcoming events and Interesting activities offered around our community for the residents and frequent visitors of our Island  Paradise and beyond.

My father, Federico Padovan, moved our family (including grandparents) to Key Biscayne in 1973. I was raised  on the Island and left briefly to earn a BFA degree at NYU. But my heart was always here so I returned to my Island Paradise home where I am raising 4th generation Key Biscayners with my husband Donnie Hall.

To read more about me,
We also have three lovely contributors sharing their insights as well! Please see their monthly articles at the bottom of each newsletter.

I want to sincerely THANK all of you for the wonderful feedback and interest in participating in our Newsletter

To put your home on the market!

That's right! With the coming of the holiday season to all, in South Florida so come potential buyers. While winter in most parts of the world means frigid cold nights, we in South Florida enjoy wonderful weather that allows us to play on the beaches by day and party through the nights with a plethora of entertainment options.

"High Season" as it is often called, runs from January to April and it's when hotel rates climb and restaurants and beaches get crowded. Each year the season seems to get started earlier than the previous year and 2017-18 season is starting off in early December with Art Basel! Locally on Key Biscayne we kickoff the season with the Bill Baggs Lighthouse and Toytown Holiday events on Friday, December 1st. So get ready, because here come the snow birds, vacationers and travelers. They are coming in by the millions to South Florida!

With all these people in town it's a great time to showcase your home. Put it on the market and take advantage of all the potential buyers. Or rent it out short term to make top dollar rental income! And if you are considering buying, selling or renting, look no further than Padovan Realty. 13th ANNUAL ROTARY KEY BISCAYNE WINE AND FOOD FEST

Friday, January 26, 2018   6:00pm - 11:00pm
The Rusty Pelican
 3201 Rickenbacker Causeway, Key Biscayne

It is our pleasure to announce that the 13th Annual ROTARY KEY BISCAYNE WINE & FOOD FEST will be held on Friday, January 26th  2018, from 6:00pm to 11:00pm at The Rusty Pelican. The evening's proceeds will benefit the Rotary Club of Key Biscayne Foundation (RCKBF) and its affiliated charities for adults and children.
This year a very exciting and interesting showdown will take place... Thirteen different wines from the New World will compete against the same varietals from the Old World to earn recognition as "Best of Show" in each class. A lovely Italian Prosecco will be offered upon arrival to "season the palate" for the wonderful wines to follow.
Shari Gherman, president of the American Fine Wine Competition & Charity Wine Gala, is our wine director again this year.  Four other noted wine professionals, Patrick Sullivan, wine educator; Wendy Rosano, Sommelier and wine director at Terra Fiamma in Delray Beach; Roberto Colombi, Sommelier and GM of The Blue in the Boca Raton Resort, and Henry Barrow, Wine Educator, will complete the professional Judging panel.

All presented wines have been graciously supplied by Strategic Importers and will be available for sale at the event through Wine Wave, our official wine retailer.  Wine Wave will coordinate all orders, payment, delivery and pick-up, and will donate 10 percent of sale proceeds to the Rotary Club of Key Biscayne Foundation. A variety of food delicacies prepared by several prominent South Florida restaurants are included in the price of admission.

Rotary's collaboration continues with the Arc of South Florida, a Miami-based non-profit helping adults and children with mental disabilities.  Their members will organize the details of the evening and receive part of the proceeds to fund its programming.

Additionally, the Rotary Club of Key Biscayne Foundation has designated proceeds to benefit Fundacion manos Del Sur's educational work with program to promote healthcare and disease prevention offered through The Nobis Foundation and the Rotary Club of Guayaquil, Ecuador.

Rather than each organization holding an independent fund raising event, The Arc of South Florida and Fundación Manos Del Sur will work together with Rotary to offer attendees not only a wonderful evening, but an opportunity to support different efforts in our community. The Rotary Club is pursuing matching grants from the local Rotary District and Rotary International to further leverage the charitable impact of this event.

$75 Early Bird through January 19th; $85 at the door.

The Holiday Season is Here!

For many it is joyous (and stressful.) For others, it is filled with sadness and loss .  This may be the first holiday season without your children, without your significant other, or without  your family. The following tips may help brighten this holiday season.
1) Be Proactive - Make plans with friends or other people who are alone during the holidays. Being proactive by making plans, rather than waiting for an invitation, gives you some degree of control and assures that you will not be alone.

2) Volunteer - The positive feeling you get from sharing and giving to others goes a long way. There are numerous opportunities to volunteer during the holidays. As a bonus, you will be meeting others who enjoy the act of giving.

3) Pamper yourself - Go to a spa, travel, shop, play golf, go to a ballet; it is ok to self-indulge.

4) Self-reflection - Where have you been and where do you want to be? Take the time to establish goals for upcoming year.

5) Exercise - Feel energized and look fit! Nature's way to combat the blues!

6) Humor - Studies show that laughter also combats the blues! You can watch a funny movie, play, or series, and your mood will improve.

7) Emotional Support -  A psychotherapist can help you deal with your feelings of sadness, loss, and anxiety, and can offer appropriate coping strategies.

Wishing you joy during the holidays and all days!

Feel Good Foods & Thoughts
Nourishing palate and soul

Guilt-Free Gratitude
Sure, this is the time of year when we're encouraged to reflect on all our blessings and give thanks for what we treasure in our lives. There is no doubt that gratitude brings plenitude. Whatever you focus on grows, so gratitude is a habit worth pursuing this Holiday Season and beyond.
What kind of thankfulness are you practicing? Is it the kind of appreciation that you "should" be exercising regarding such issues such as health, family and so on? Is it the type of gratefulness that gives you the sense of feeling lucky by chance? Think closely because there is a delicate difference worth considering. You see, many people feel that perhaps their good fortune has more to do with their fate than their worthiness to receive abundance, and therein lies the difference. Luck comes from a vibration of chance and "oh thank goodness I made it" and conceivably making you feel guilty about the other poor souls who have another fate. This sentiment is in contrast to the feeling of merit where you attract your favorable circumstances more so because you are in alignment with greater gifts the universe has to offer. The latter feels better and sure-footed.
These Holidays let's showcase and celebrate our blessings not because we happened to get the lottery ticket of a better life over other people, but more so because our lives and our daily practices are in alliance with all the abundance the universe has to offer us. Happy Holidays!!!

How To Stay Healthy During The Holidays
The holidays are filled with doses of extra love and family. Along with the abundance of gratitude, there may be opportunities for an overindulgence of food as well. This is a challenging time of the year for most and the goal to be healthy may start to stray away.
A FEM recently asked me for tips on how I get through the holiday season in a healthy way. I start the holiday season with the acceptance that food and beverages will be on display perhaps daily. As a result, I consciously set my intentions on the holiday spirit of people and not on the consumption aspect of the season. The shift into healthiness starts at this point for me.
When I focus on the beauty of the season and the magical moments with friends and loved ones, the focus on the excess diminishes. When we focus on the real magic of the season, food may be the catalyst but it's not the purpose and reason for it all.
My intention is to help you keep health on the mind while enjoying the true purpose of the holiday season.
Here are 5 tips to help you get through the holiday season in the healthiest ways. [FemCity Global FEMs shared their tips as well]

YUM YUM FOOD:  Give yourself permission to enjoy the specialty foods and cocktails. However, the best method for moments when you are engulfed in fragrant recipes, is to eat small and tiny bites. There is no grand benefit to eating until you feel ill or start to suffer from stomach pains. Try to keep your stomach in an "un-stuffed" state with light eating and grazing vs large plates of overstuffed servings.
Rebecca Borges, our FemCity Chicago President, shared " hydrate, hydrate, hydrate! Water helps to ward off big appetites and has proven to reduce food consumption of the masses."

THE E WORD: I know my calorie intake will surpass the norm in the upcoming weeks and as a result, my workout time will also increase. Not only does it help with keeping my fitness level up but also my stress levels down. I am pulled in so many directions during the holiday season and exercise always helps to keep grounded. Exercise doesn't have to always be adding more gym hours or class quantities. Patty Farmer, Business Growth Strategist, advised to take every chance you can during holiday shopping to get in exercise. "Park as far away as you can from each store, take the stairs vs the elevator" she added. It's the little steps that make big steps in staying healthy. Yoga Instructor, Andrea Beth Tank shared a few tips on  Wink News
as well for easy fitness moves during the holidays.

YOUR OWN MENTAL STATE:  This is a great time to reflect and disconnect on the thoughts that are not the healthiest for you. Have you been repeating thoughts that seem to keep you back? Health isn't just about food, it's also about the kindness we show ourselves. Nancy Vaughn, of White Book Agency, recommends scheduling in self-care minutes, moments or days during the holidays. Nancy said, "You're worth the two minutes, twenty minutes or full-hour of "you" time. Your nurtured-self and healthy presence is one of the best gifts you can give someone!"
THE HEALTHY HUMANS:  Be conscious to surround yourself this holiday season with family and loved ones that make your soul smile. When we are with those that lift us up, we recharge and reconnect to the elements of the holiday that manifest joy. If you are going to be around those that are not so positive, there are ways to instill joy nonetheless. Limit time with those that don't elevate you and be conscious to protect your thoughts and energy while physically near negative people. When we are conscious and aware of the energies that lift up or knock down, we are able to form emotional protective barriers to support our brightest light.

THE BLESSINGS:  I love love love to have gratitude journals in every corner of our living space. Create daily gratitude notes for every moment that makes your happiness level increase. Challenge yourself to find 25 grateful moments each day and capture them on paper with ink. It is really one of my favorite activities and your spirit will thank you. Dr. Gail Hayes, International Speaker, said "look around and see and remember that you have a wonderful purpose for being here. Vocalize your thankfulness to the universe. Make a list of things for which you are grateful and remember and savor why you are thankful".

Author and Coach, Emi Kirschner shared "Take a few minutes to think about what you want to experience at the holidays. Plan everything you do around how you want to feel and what you want to experience".
The spirit of the holiday season pivots our souls into our purest healthiest state in all areas of our lives. The choices all start with our intention for ourselves and those around us. May the holiday of gratitude serve as a segway to a healthier you.
