Weekend Lineup
Telstars, Lost Cause, Dujkas, Ravens, oh my!

Start the weekend on Friday night in Houston with the annual Toys for Tots and BBQ Cookoff Dance at the KC Hall on E. Whitney. Bring an unwrapped toy to help the Marines with their campaign. Saturday night is party time at Moravia Store with Lost Cause. Wear your ugly Christmas sweater for free admission (just kidding, there's no admission). No better way to start Sunday than with a polka Mass at the 25th Annual Ellinger Polka Fest. Dujka Brothers will provide the music, then dance to their music and the Red Ravens after you feast on a mega fried chicken and sausage dinner.
Also, big doin's in Blanco with the Fiddle Fest. Great music, workshops all day featuring Brian Marshall and many more, and cap off the evening with the Fiddle Fest dance starring Bobby Flores & the Yellow Rose Band.

Country Sunday: Got some good choices for two-steppin': Bootleg Country is at VFW in north Houston...Bob Appel is at VFW in Geronimo...Charles & Fab 4 are in Sweet Home.

This time of year always has some special concerts, performances, & events. Check out the listing on the right side of the polkabeat homepage. Also includes listing of museum exhibits - good thing to know when you have to entertain family and friends visiting for the holidays. Should be a nice day to wander the grounds of the Texas Czech Heritage & Cultural Center on Saturday. The village will be decked out in vintage Christmas décor, gift shop is open, and yummy chicken noodle lunch served at 11:30 am. Be sure to check out the Great German Bavarian Christmas show at Santa's Wonderland each Monday night. Make plans to attend the German Christmas Market in Tomball Dec. 8-10. Mollie B and Ted are in town and Chris Rybak is warming up his party stage!

Coming in December: Meet Polish Pete. He crafted a championship polka called the Altuve Polka, and the Astros won the World Series (never thought I'd type those words!). Find out what inspired him, what that victory parade was like, and his polka/baseball story that began in Pittsburgh, PA. Weimar musician, George Jurecka, provides brass reflections on those popular town bands of yesteryear. Michelle Slovak of Czech & Then Some shares Musings from the Road. Justin Everett reviews the Auf Geht's CD and shares some Czech and German Christmas traditions. Find out about the Great Bavarian Christmas Show at Santa's Wonderland. Editor Gary E. McKee recalls some Christmas dances of the past. Mark your calendar for the January Is Polka Month Dance featuring the Dujka Brothers in Schulenburg. It's a fundraiser for the International Polka Association, celebrating its 50th year!
