The Holidays are always a busy time. It is easy for us to get caught up in the hustle and bustle of the season.  Between Thanksgiving and New Years there are family who yearn for a simpler time.  Our Believe In Tomorrow families hope for a time without doctors visits, surgeries, hospital stays and life saving treatments for their sweet children.  In this month's newsletter, you will read about  a brave young girl, kind volunteers, and generous donors, all of which reminds us of the good that your support provides to the children and families that we serve throughout the year.

We invite you to join the Believe In Tomorrow social media communities on   Facebook ,  Instagram ,  Twitter  and now Snapchat, too! These social channels allow us to share timely information with you, as well as a way for us to hear directly from our families, donors, and volunteers.
Brianna Loves Dogs

Brianna and her family have been a part of the Believe In Tomorrow Hospital Housing Program because of her cancer diagnosis and subsequent treatment at the world renowned Johns Hopkins Children's Center. During the past year, she has spent over 150 days at Believe In Tomorrow hospital housing.  Initially, Brianna and her mom, Brandy, were at The Children's House at Johns Hopkins, they later then moved to the House at St. Casimir.

As Brianna's treatments became increasingly more aggressive due to her high-risk leukemia diagnosis, Brandy shared that it was difficult to keep Brianna's spirits up. Fortunately, Brianna's mood drastically improved when she spent time with therapy dogs during their weekly visits to The Children's House.

Several times each week, volunteers bring certified therapy dogs to The Children's House at Johns Hopkins.  For Brianna, a self-proclaimed dog lover, these visits were often the highlight of her week. The time Brianna spent with the dogs gave her a momentary break from her difficult treatments and stressful hospital routines.  Her medical team at the hospital recognized how important the therapy dogs were to Brianna and organized her schedule to allow as much time as possible with the dogs.

When Brianna received her bone marrow transplant, she and Brandy then moved to the Children's House at St. Casimir.  This special location is specifically designated to house families whose children have received a bone marrow transplant.  While at St. Casimir, Brianna became "friends for life" with a fellow transplant recipient.  The two children played together for hours each day, while their moms visited and bonded over the long medical journeys their children had been through.

The Believe In Tomorrow Legacy Award
recognizes amazing contributions, given over a significant period of time, that help to expand our Believe In Tomorrow Respite and Hospital Housing Programs. These contributions ensure that future generations of Believe In Tomorrow families will find comfort and joy during the challenges of their child's illness.

Once they were retired, Sunny and her late husband, Larry, spent more and more time in Ocean City, Maryland and were introduced to the Believe In Tomorrow respite housing program at the beach. Sunny and Larry became regular volunteers at the "Monday Night Cookouts," helping to prepare and serve meals to the families who were beginning their weeklong stay at the beach. Charmed by both the children and the parents that they met, Larry and Sunny began to look for additional ways to be of service to the families. Click here to read more.

Opening New Doors

This year we started construction of what will be a spectacular new mountaintop respite in Deep Creek, Maryland. Within several months, critically ill children and their families will be walking through the doors of the Believe in Tomorrow Children's House at Deep Creek Lake. There, our families will find a restorative environment designed to help them relax, recharge, refresh and rebuild their lives. We are moving forward with plans to build new respite housing at the beach, with a major expansion of our Children's House By The Sea.

As we enter the giving season, please consider how you might make an impact by supporting Believe In Tomorrow's continued expansion. To make a gift today click here.

The construction phase for the Believe In Tomorrow House at Deep Creek is progressing at a rapid pace. The new property has soaring ceilings and a gorgeous view of the lake below. The beauty of this property will help our families relax, rest and rejuvenate in a peaceful surrounding.

Can you or your employer help us secure donated items from our list? Please contact us at [email protected] with any questions or leads. We look forward to opening the doors in  2018, allowing us to double the number of families participating in our respite housing program in the Deep Creek area.
