New Digs in Sahuarita
JTED @ Walden Grove Opens for HEO

Years of planning with local business partners, educators, and community leaders, lead by Sahuarita Superintendent Dr. Manny Valenzuela, bore fruit in the middle of the area's pecan groves. The community gathered to celebrate the recent grand opening of our JTED @ Walden Grove Heavy Equipment Operations program.

The program, taught by Tim Wood, has approximately 20 students, and a cohort at our JTED @ Star Alan L. Storm Center in the Sunnyside District.

In addition to attending class after their normal school day two days a week, HEO students spend two Saturdays per month working in various locations, including the UA Mine.

Students learn to operate dozers, graders, backhoes, forklifts, and skid steers. They earn OSHA 10, NCCER CORE, and Forklift Operator certifications by the time they graduate high school.

The program recently received an $85,000 gift from  Freeport- McMoRan mining company.

Students who are interested in taking the program during the 2018-2019 school year will be able to enroll online in January at www.pimajted.org

Cienega High School NJROTC A Salute to NJROTC
Outstanding Young Men and Women

Our Senior Naval Science Instructor at Cienega High School, LCDR George R. Murga, USN (Ret), reports that his NJROTC program, which is the largest in the state, completed their mandated Annual Military Inspection and received "Outstanding" in all areas evaluated, the highest grade possible.

Programs are evaluated on:
  • School system support
  • Administration of the program
  • Student mentoring
  • Reports and records
  • Cadet performance
Vail Unified School District Career and Technical Education Director, Aron Schmidt, says credit goes to LCDR George R. Murga, GySgt Juan Lara, and the Cienega High School administrative team. He also says Pima JTED funding has been instrumental in increasing the community's access to the program.
tax credit donation postcard

When you donate to help Pima County JTED students start successful careers, the Arizona Public School Tax Credit (ARS 43-1098.01) allows you to receive a dollar-for-dollar tax credit on your Arizona state income tax return.

Make a contribution before the end of the tax year, and you can receive a tax credit of up to $400 when filing a joint tax return, or up to $200 when filing as a single taxpayer.

Your tax credit reduces your final tax liability. It can reduce the amount you owe, or increase the amount of your refund. This is a great way to specify that you want your tax dollars used to help students move to careers and college.

Please consult your tax professional for more information and visit  www.azdor.gov for specific forms and guidelines.
