Youth Holiday Program
|
A favorite youth services holiday tradition is hosting an annual celebration of joy and family. This year, our Happy Holiday program will be on
Saturday, December 9, in the Si Birch Community Room. Beginning at 11 a.m., this all-ages program will include seasonal stories, interactive live music, snacks, and crafts activities for children. And we've invited Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus!
Other youth events in December include after-school activities on Wednesday, December 6, from 1 to 3 p.m.; Chess Club on Thursdays from 3:45 to 5 p.m.; and story-time programs every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday morning. Enjoy your library during this festive season!

2017 Annual Appeal

Here at Sedona Public Library, we believe in taking care of our community. In return, you have always taken care of us. Thank you for believing in the work we do and the free services we provide. This year we offered 846 programs, including the Read Around Sedona community read program and StoryWalk, an outdoor exhibit where children can read while they exercise.
In 2018, we will launch a new book discussion group and offer Arizona Humanities presentations, exhibits, movies, and some surprises. You never know what you'll find at the Library.

- Sing-along Therapy for Alzheimer's and Dementia Patients: On Monday, December 4, from 2 to 3 p.m. in the community room, author and vocalist Cheryl Hodge will present a music therapy workshop for patients affected by brain disorders such as Alzheimer's, dementia, stroke, or Parkinson's. Patients, caregivers, and loved ones are all invited to attend this free program.
- Code Talker Presentation at Coffee with a Veteran: Don't miss a special Coffee with a Veteran speaker program on Friday, December 8, from 10 a.m. to noon in the community room. At this event, Hopi tribal member Patty Toyahongva will give a presentation on Native American code talkers. The program was originally held at the Smithsonian Museum of the American Indian in Washington, D.C. Patty is an accomplished speaker and is personally acquainted with some of the code talkers.
- iPad/iPhone Workshop: The Oak Creek Apples group will offer a general question-and-answer workshop on iPads and iPhones on Saturday, December 16, from 10 a.m. to noon in the community room. Pre-registration is required for this free program by emailing [email protected].
- Christmas Down Under Concert and Presentation: At this free program on Saturday, December 16, from 5 to 6 p.m. in the community room, Taka, a multimedia artist and world traveler, will talk about his experience living with the Aborigines of Australia and will play one of the didgeridoos he built. There will also be a question-and-answer session concerning both Christmas Down Under and the program sponsor, the New Earth Foundation.

New Book Discussion Group at the Library
|
Looking for an opportunity to share and discuss your love of books? Then join the new monthly book club at the main library! The first discussion will be held on Tuesday, January 9, from 2 to 3:30 p.m. in the Quiet Study.
The book selected for January is "The Watchmaker of Filigree Street," by Natasha Pulley, an atmospheric historical fantasy that takes the reader on an unexpected journey through Victorian London and beyond. Movies in December
|
Enjoy a free movie screening on Monday nights in December at the Library. Please note there will be no movie on Christmas Day, December 25.
- December 4: Brigsby Bear, a comedy about a man who finds creative ways to integrate into society after spending his youth in an underground bunker.
- December 11: The Glass Castle, based on the best-selling memoir about an unconventional family.
- December 18: Paris Can Wait, a romantic comedy featuring the picturesque sights of the French countryside.

Arizona's Wild West Myths and Legends, on
Monday, December 11, at 1:30 at the Church of the Nazarene, 55 Rojo Drive in the Village of Oak Creek. This program, sponsored by Arizona Humanities and Friends of the Sedona Library, is free and open to the public. Donations are always welcome.
