Parent University - Watch the first episode!
Watch the premiere episode of 'Parent University' focusing on digital citizenship;
what it is, how our students are taught it and expectations that are set.

Parent University is a program of Cedar Falls Schools that includes educational programs and videos to share information and tips with parents and the community. Topics will cover what students are learning, ways to help your student(s) and give parents a better understanding what happens every day in our school buildings. We hope parents gain an understanding and confidence and become more engaged in the programs and larger community.

FIRST LEGO League Regional Qualifier at Peet Junior High

Creativity and science will come together at this weekend's FIRST LEGO League Iowa Regional Qualifier at Peet Jr. High where 35 teams of 9- to 14-year-olds will demonstrate their problem-solving skills, creative thinking, teamwork, competitive play, sportsmanship, and sense of community. This event is open to the public.

Teams will have to program their LEGO MINDSTORMS® robots to solve a set of missions on an obstacle course set on a thematic playing surface. For the Hydro Dynamics Challenge, teams are working to solve problems related to human interactions and usage of water.  The competition is judged in three areas: project; robot design, and  Core Values ,  which embody aspects of teamwork and good sportsmanship. Top robot game scores are also honored.

FIRST LEGO League is an international program for 9- to 14-year-olds created in a partnership between FIRST and the LEGO Group in 1998 to get children excited about science, engineering and technology - and teach them valuable career and life skills. Using LEGO® MINDSTORMS®technologies and LEGO® Education materials, children work together to design, build, and program autonomous robots and create an innovative solution to a problem as part of their research project.  The competition season culminates at high-energy, sports-like tournaments. Like any other organized "sport," teams also fundraise, create a team identity, and go on field trips.

Iowa FIRST® LEGO® League is directed by Iowa State University College of Engineering and partners with local volunteer organizers who host regional qualifying events. Teams may advance out of this regional qualifying event to attend the State Championships on January 13 and 14, 2018 at Iowa State University.
