Laguna Art Museum Begins its 100th Year

In the summer of 1918, Anna Hills, Edgar Payne, and other artists formed the Laguna Beach Art Association (LBAA). The 1918 founding of the LBAA began the story of Laguna Beach as an art colony and the story of Laguna Art Museum (LAM).  During 2018, Laguna Art Museum will pay homage to its history as one of Orange County's oldest cultural institutions with a series of events, exhibitions and publications.  More information about LAM's Centennial here.
City of Anaheim Will Appoint a Poet Laureate
Applications Due December 15th

The Anaheim City Council has approved the establishment of a Poet Laureate position. The Poet Laureate is a two-year honorary (unpaid) appointment as the literary ambassador for the City of Anaheim. The goals of the program are to (1) inspire Anaheim residents with the transformative power and beauty of poetry; (2) provide Anaheim youth with opportunities to engage in literary arts and write or perform poetry; (3) bring poetry to a variety of settings in Anaheim, promoting cultural connections and partnership opportunities.   As part of the appointment as Poet Laureate and literary ambassador for the City of Anaheim, the Poet Laureate duties will include free public workshops, readings and community events.  To be eligible, applicants must be a Anaheim residents (for at least 5 years), at least 21 years of age, a track record as a published poet who has experience delivering public readings and workshops.  More information and application form may be found here.  The deadline for applications is December 15, and the appointment will take place in March 2018.

Soka Performing Arts Center Seeks Successor to First G.M.

Soka Performing Arts Center's first General Manager, David Palmer, has announced that he will retire in 2018 after leading the venue since its opening in September 2011.  A national search has begun for his successor.  More details here.

Nominations Open for ARTIST OF THE YEAR AWARDS

Nominations are now open for the ARTIST OF THE YEAR AWARDS, and are due after the first of the year.  The program was begun by the Orange County Register, and is being transformed through a new partnership with OC Music and Dance and the OC Department of Education.  Any student artist who is a JUNIOR or SENIOR may be nominated.  Complete details may be found here.
