Dear St. George Families,

As I was walking down the hall one day, a third grade boy asked me how I was doing. After my reply, he asked another question, "What kind of things are you doing in your office today, Mr. Nelson?" I went on to name a handful of tasks and then stopped short, realizing he needed to get back to class. As I walked away, I heard him call out from down the hall, "A principal's job is never done!" he said.
How true it is - and as I think about it more I realize that we all have a job to do, and that job is never done - the job of a disciple (which we are all called to be). I would like to quote Dr. Kathleen Cepelka as she did some reflecting on this same topic.  "Our mission as Catholic educators is essentially this:  to do "the will of the one who sent [us,]" to be the hands, the hearts, the minds, and the voices-the disciples of Jesus Christ... Jesus pointedly reminds us about the responsibility and the privilege of our calling: to obey and to teach "these commandments" as examples and proclaimers of the Living God. Who today will see our faith in-action and believe? Who will hear our words and know they're loved?"
My sincere hope is that  everyone sees our faith in-action and believes. And that everyone will hear our words and know they are loved. We all have a job to do. We are all essential parts of the Catholic Church's mission. Just as that third grade boy pointed out, "Our job is never done." A disciple's job is never done.

God bless,
Jack Nelson
