Cambridge student presents at Georgia Tech
Trey Quinn
Trey Quinn presented at Georgia Tech's, Tools for Life program at the 2nd Annual Champions Community Foundation Gala. Trey helped to raise the $535,000 needed to break ground on the first Champions Place facility. Champions Place is a state of the art residential facility for people with disabilities as well as a social hub for the surrounding community. The facility is being built in Roswell.
Georgia Tech College of Design students helped with the building's architecture, and the team that Trey interns with at Georgia Tech is in charge of designing and implementing the digital systems that will make the facility "smart" using different types of consumer electronics. To see the technology they have been testing in action and how it has impacted lives, check out the following YouTube video:

Note: The cafeteria will have lunch available for students after the last exam period on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. Buses will depart at 12:45pm.
Late Check-in Guidelines - Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday:
The first exam periods on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday (December 19-21) are also lunch periods. During lunch periods, students who have lunch will remain in the cafeteria and will use the time to study for final exams.
Your student may arrive late rather than attend during his/her lunch period.
If your student is arriving late on one of the half-day final exam days, he/she must arrive by 10:35 am. Students arriving late will remain in the cafeteria until it is time to move to the 10:40 am exam. Students riding in car pool must enter through the cafeteria doors on the north side of the building (facing Kings Ridge). Student drivers must enter through the cafeteria doors. Do not drop your student off at the front doors as they will be directed to the cafeteria side entrance. Students cannot be in the academic halls during testing.
Missed Exams:
Students are expected to be present and on time on all testing days. If a student must miss a final exam due to illness, the parent/guardian must call the Attendance Office on the day of the absence in order for the student to take his/her exam on the make-up days. If the Attendance Office is not alerted, the absence will be considered unexcused.
All other missed exams must receive prior approval by the student's grade-level administrator. To obtain approval the parent/guardian should email the administrator by Friday, December 15. Please include the date(s) to be missed, the subject name(s), the teacher name(s), and reason for the missed exam.
Make up exams will take place in the Student Center and will occur on:
- Thursday, January 4, 8:30 am - 3:00 pm
- Friday, January 5, 8:30 am - 3:00 pm
Checking Students Out:
Students will not be allowed to check out while exams are in progress. Classrooms cannot be disturbed, and students will not be allowed in the academic halls. For a student to check out prior to the end of the day, please have your student bring a note to the Attendance Office at the beginning of the school day. Due to the volume, the Attendance Office cannot accept emails or phone calls at check-out time.

Close Up
Washington D.C.
Are you interested in politics and how the government works? Join Cambridge for a week-long, in-depth trip to Washington D.C. as you enroll in the Close Up program and behind the scenes of our democracy in action. Close Up has been showing students the inside workings of our government since 1971.
This is not the trip you may have taken with your middle school teacher (no disrespect) but rather a week full of activities with students from across the nation. Each day is filled with simulations, study groups, and monument visits. Each of these will challenge you to think as a historian and will give you a deeper understanding of our democracy.
Cambridge is currently gauging interest for a trip during the MLK week (January 14 - 19) or during Spring Break (April 1 - 6). If you would like more information, please contact Mr. Schuler at [email protected] for costs and itinerary.

Does your student know how to properly restart his/her device? Did you know that restarting your device correctly can affect everything on the devices from wireless to testing?
Students should remember that the Surfaces are not like other computers when it comes to turning it off and on again. A shutdown will
not
refresh the device like a regular computer, they require a
restart
.Things that do
not
Restart
the surface:
- Sleep
- Shutdown
- Pushing the power button
- Holding the power button and swiping down
- Closing the keyboard
The only way to Restart surface is to Start menu > Power > Restart
If your student has not restarted his/her surface since the start of school it could result in hours of updates.

The Winter Solstice Tree is Back
Collecting gifts until Friday, December 8
Again this year Cambridge is teaming up with Fulton County to give gift cards to teenagers who are in foster care. Often teens are the "forgotten ones" on holiday lists as they aren't easy to shop for and aren't the first picked from an angel tree or they receive a leftover gift intended for an eight-year-old.
Last year we raised over $1500 in gift cards by word of mouth through a few classes. This year we are looking to go even bigger.
For those interested in participating (teachers, students, parents): Just stop by Mr. Schuler's room (2801) and pick up a solstice tree from his back wall and return it with your gift card (either in a gift bag or wrapped in a small box) by Friday, December 8th.
