SHARING OUR STORY

We were honored to participate in two teach-ins with Orange County Public Schools.

CFX's Manager of Public Affairs, Emily Brown, spoke to second-graders at Riverdale Elementary about the different jobs people do to build and maintain our roads. The kids were excited to learn that studying science, engineering, math and technology will prepare them for a future in transportation.

At Zellwood Elementary, Mary Brooks, CFX, Public Information Officer, discussed the Wekiva Parkway project and possible careers in transportation as she met with more than 90 students and staff members. The fourth- and fifth- graders loved the look of parkway sections and were happy to hear that the project includes wildlife protections. Students also signed up as Designated Texters and work zone safety ambassadors.

SAFETY TIP OF MONTH:
Holiday Travel Precautions
  • Be patient. Expect delays due to traffic congestion during the holiday travel season. It may make sense to drive late at night or early in the morning to avoid peak travel periods. A GPS device or the Waze app can help you navigate around gridlock while heading to your destination.
  • Avoid cell phone use. Cell phones and driving don't mix. So, if you need to send a message or make a call, hand your phone to a passenger or pull over.
  • Buckle up. Seatbelt use is mandatory in Florida. Make sure small children are properly secured in car seats; children under 13 should be seated in the back seats.
  • Arrive alive. Do not drink and drive.

CFX Joins E-ZPASS Group

CFX has joined the E-ZPass Group, an association of toll agencies in 16 states that operates the
E-ZPass electronic toll collection program.

This lays the groundwork for CFX to be first toll agency in Florida to accept E-ZPass as toll payment starting in Spring 2018. At that time, the more than 35 million E-ZPass customers from Maine to North Carolina and west through Illinois will be able to experience the convenience of nonstop travel on roads owned and operated by CFX in the Metro Orlando without stopping at toll booths.

The over a half-million E-PASS toll transponders in circulation in Metro Orlando and throughout Florida will not function at existing E-ZPass facilities; however, CFX E-PASS customers will have the opportunity, if they choose, to request a special tag that does work at all E-ZPass toll plazas in the 16 state region. Details will be forthcoming.

"By joining the E-ZPass Group, CFX is furthering the process toward seamless travel on all toll roads regardless of where you live, work or play," said CFX Executive Director Laura Kelley. "Our collaboration is another example of CFX's commitment to putting our customers first."

CFX Participates in Community Meeting

In April 2017, CFX began conducting concept, feasibility and mobility studies on the unbuilt Osceola County Expressway Authority Master Plan projects. The four proposed expressway corridors are the Poinciana Parkway Extension/I-4 Connector, Southport Connector Expressway, Northeast Connector Expressway and Osceola Parkway Extension. These corridors would total nearly 60 miles of new expressways.

This month, as part of our study outreach efforts, CFX was invited to present information on the Poinciana Parkway Extension/I-4 Connector to the residents of Loughman at their community meeting. Attendees learned how the corridor would improve
I-4's connectivity to the greater Poinciana area, enhance mobility options and help relieve congestion on local roads. Attendees were also able to submit comments and have their questions answered.

At the conclusion of the studies in 2018, the CFX Board will consider which, if any, of the projects move forward.
