Teen Craft Prep Volunteer Workdays



Help prepare crafts and materials for upcoming summer camps, family festivals and educational programs. For ages 13 and up.  Pre-registration is required. 
Some outside work may be available--bring a coat!

old Christmas Tree 
to mulch trails at 
Blue Jay Point 
County Park 

Drop your undecorated tree off at the designated location in the park (follow signs!) 7 days a week during  regular park hours 
(8 a.m.- sunset)

Bear's Winter House

Bear is behaving very strangely indeed: collecting moss, logs, and branches to build a winter house and the other animals wonder what he is doing. The Bear's Winter House by John Yeoman explorers why animals need to get ready for winter!

You can attract winter wildlife to your backyard by providing or improving their habitat.  We'll check out Blue Jay's Garden Area for some ideas before creating several simple habitat helpers you can add to your 
own yard.

Green and on the Scene

Do you think winter time means everything is dried up, dull and dreary?  Think again!  Join Blue Jay staff for an outdoor adventure hunting winter plants and trees that are green and on the scene.  All participants must be independently mobile or in child backpacks.  
No strollers please!

GrEEn Holiday Crafting

GrEEn Holiday Crafting is an annual Gathering of Environmental Educators of North Carolina Central Section members and prospective EENC members. What to expect? First of all, a fun, relaxing afternoon with other EENC members plus some yummy snacks! Second of all, enjoy a variety of free crafting activities led by EENC members. Meet at the Blue Jay Center for Environmental Education.

Growing Up WILD

Growing Up WILD is geared towards educators of children between the ages of 3-7 years old and is correlated to the National Association for the Education of Young People Standards and the Head Start Domains. Facilitated by Casey Williams, this 6-hour workshop counts as a Criteria I workshop in the NC Environmental Education Certification Program.  CEU credit will be available upon the completion of a homework assignment.  Meet at the Blue Jay Center for Environmental Education and bring a bag lunch.

Introduction to Trail Cams
Exploring the Secret Lives of NC Wildlife
Thursday  January 18, 2018 
 9 a.m. - 1 p.m.


This workshop will introduce participants to trail cameras and their many uses for exploring and monitoring wildlife populations.  Participants will learn how to program and 
deploy a variety of popular trail cameras, as well as how to download and interpret trail camera photos.  The workshop 
will also explore citizen science opportunities such as the 
Candid Critters program, and discuss the use 
of trail cameras in research conducted by 
NC Wildlife Resources  Commission staff.  
This workshop will be held at Blue Jay Point County Park, and is open to the public ages 16 and up. Participants are eligible for 4 hours of Criteria II or III credit towards the NC OEE Environmental Education Certification, and school teachers receive 0.4 CEU credits.
