Dr. Alysia Starkey announces additional role of director of professional education and outreach
Dr. Alysia Starkey is taking on more responsibility with her recently announced role in the campus's Outreach Center.
She will be the new director of professional education and outreach in addition to her current position as associate dean of academics.
Dr. Starkey, whose office is now located in the Outreach Center in the north corridor of campus, says the position allows her to be more fully engaged in all aspects of academic operations on the Polytechnic Campus. She notes that for the past two years, she has had supervisory responsibilities for student services, but now that Sarah Werner, student services manager, is in place, she can refocus on new on-campus and off-campus academic program development.
"This is an exciting change as it also provides an opportunity for academic services - advising, registrar, library, instructional design, and professional education and outreach - to work closely together to strengthen support for all learners, whether they be traditional, credit seeking on-campus or distance students, or individuals seeking to advance their professional skills through non-credit opportunities," said Dr. Starkey.
Another change in the professional education and outreach office is the addition of Kelli Witte, who was previously in the student support services office. Witte is the new office specialist and Testing Center coordinator.

Faculty members from several different degree options visited Junction City High School Nov. 17 for their freshmen Discovery Days. Several stations were set up around the gym where students could explore technologies such as robotics, UAS, 3D printing, digital media, aviation maintenance and more.

Social work students aim to raise homelessness awareness, gather warm clothing with fundraiser 'Keeping Salina Warm'
If you have a roof over your head every night, students in the social work degree option want you to understand what it is like for those that do not.
The students have created "Keeping Salina Warm," a simulation and fundraiser on
Friday, Dec. 1 that aims to shine a light on the local homeless population while collecting cold weather necessities. From 5 p.m. to midnight in the Student Life Center, those that attend are given the opportunity to experience what it would be like to be without adequate shelter on a cold December night. Participants also are eligible for dinner, however, as part of the simulation, it will be handed out to them in a soup kitchen setting.
Children in attendance can decorate holiday cards that will be given to
DVACK, the
Ashby House and the Salina Rescue Mission, and everyone who comes is asked to donate a winter coat or other cold weather item, which also will go to those three organizations.

Library offering Harry Potter night during Stress Free Week
Calling all Muggles and Wizards!
The K-State Polytechnic Library is contributing to Stress Free Week with a Harry Potter-themed event to help give students a break from studying for finals. From 4 to 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 5, the library is hosting a variety of activities that honor the famous sci-fi series, including being sorted into your own Hogwarts house and creating a wand. Snacks and drinks also will be provided.
Later that evening, from 6 to 7:30 p.m., there will be a competitive
Harry Potter-themed scavenger hunt. The first team to follow the clues and successfully complete the hunt will be given a prize.
Faculty and staff are invited to participate alongside students.

K-State Polytechnic awards $8,500 scholarship at Pro Jet Aviation Education and Career Expo
K-State Polytechnic admissions traveled to Leesburg, Virginia in October to attend a prospective student expo and connect with a scholarship recipient.
The admissions team visited the Pro Jet Aviation Education and Career Expo, which hosts several hundred high school and college students from around the area. During the event, the students listen to motivational speakers, visit with college and industry representatives and receive scholarships.
K-State Polytechnic awarded Marlena Schoppert, a student in a technical training school in Leesburg, earned a $8,500 scholarship.

Employee Tuition Assistance and Spouse/Dependent Grant
1. Employee Tuition Assistance
Award amount is for tuition only in a K-State course for up to 3 credit hours per term.
The maximum award amount will not exceed the value of 3 hours at the in-state Manhattan/Salina tuition rate (ie. campus fees, other institutional fees, etc. are the responsibility of the employee).

Spouse/Dependent Grants (Only REGULAR employees are eligible. If you are unsure if you are REGULAR or TERM, check your contract or with the HR office.)
For Dependents or Spouses that are enrolled full time in a degree terminating undergraduate program, the award will be the equivalent of the regular, resident on-campus tuition rate for 7 undergraduate course credits, where full-time for an undergraduate is defined as at least 12 enrolled credit hours per regular fall/spring term.
For Spouses that are enrolled part-time in a degree terminating undergraduate program the maximum award will be the equivalent of the regular, resident on-campus tuition rate for 3 undergraduate course credits, where part-time for an undergraduate is defined as less than 12 enrolled credit hours per regular fall/spring term. (Enrollment of less than 3 credit hours, will result in the proration of the award i.e. 2 credit hours enrolled = the equivalent of the regular, resident on-campus tuition rate for 2 credit hours - or - 1 credit hour enrolled = the equivalent of the regular, resident on-campus tuition rate for 1 credit hour. )
Dependents that are enrolled less than full-time in an undergraduate program are not eligible for the K-State Dependent/Spouse Grant.
For Dependents or Spouses that are enrolled in a degree terminating graduate or veterinary medicine program the maximum award will be the equivalent of the regular, resident on-campus tuition rate for 3 course credit hours as indicated by the student's degree program, graduate or veterinary medicine. (Enrollment of less than 3 credit hours, will result in the proration of the award i.e. 2 credit hours enrolled = the equivalent of the regular, resident on-campus tuition rate for 2 credit hours - or - 1 credit hour enrolled = the equivalent of the regular, resident on-campus tuition rate for 1 credit hour.)
