Guo Pei:  Couture Beyond Exhibition at SCAD

Join us in January as we revisit the
G uo Pei: Couture Beyond Exhibition at SCAD Fashion which was cancelled to the public last minute in October.
T his will be a docent-led tour to avoid any  museum closure issues.  Those who have free passes from the last visit may use them.  The date and time is Friday, January 19th, at 11:30am.  We will meet in the Fashion Museum lobby between 11:15 and 11:30.  Following the tour, we will have lunch at a nearby restaurant.

This solo exhibition highlights the work of acclaimed fashion designer Guo Pei, the first Chinese national designer invited to join the prestigious Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture.

SCAD Fashion Museum is extending a group rate price of $5/person instead of their standard general admission price of $10/regular, $8/senior or military so don't miss out on this great opportunity.   Please RSVP for this event to Peggy Bartolotta at

Address: 1600 Peachtree Street, NE Atlanta, GA 30309

10 Ways of Giving Back to Your Community

With "Giving Tuesday" just over this past week and Thanksgiving in the books for another year, many of us are looking at ways we can give back to our communities as part of our gift in making a difference.   TTN has many opportunities to give back, but here are a few suggestions from Inc.  (Click here to read the entire article).  I especially like #5!
  1. Promote Local Businesses.  As part of our TTN activities it's always great to support our local businesses with shopping events, tours, and restaurants.
  2. Participate in Food Drive.   Many of us have our local school or church food drive.   TTN has also supported the Atlanta Food Bank which is a great way to give back.
  3. Sponsor a Sports Team.  Wow, what better way to stay young and help out the youth in your community.   Maybe your local TTN Peer Group could think about doing this together?   Options are endless.
  4. Set up a Collection Jar. Personally I like the fundme accounts and ways to donate online or via Facebook but like the Salvation Army finds out during the holidays, a collection jar is very effective!
  5. Hold a Contest.   This one is really intriguing.   The options are endless and fun!   How many push ups can you do, how about a bucket of cold water on your head, and those photo contests.   Your options are endless.
  6. Sponsor an Event.  As part of my annual 2 day breast cancer walk, our group sets up many events (BBQs, Tennis Tournaments,  Walk-a-thon, etc.) where collections can be made.   It's fun to participate in too!
  7. Offer a Brick.   I loved how the Braves and other venues have used this (like the Olympic Park) to get support and raise money for a great cause.  Also, your name lives in infamy (until it's blasted down).
  8. Build a House.   Habitat for Humanity has this one down pat but you can also take on the refurbish option and transform a dwelling.   Great team building opportunities with this option.
  9. Offer Your Skills.   This option is a great one that not only helps the community but also helps you!  You get involved and volunteer all the wonderful skills you have learned throughout your life.
  10. Encourage Volunteerism.  With special events, like Hands on Atlanta (or Cobb, or DeKalb, etc.), it's great to just volunteer and encourage others to do the same for the causes you are passionate about.

So many ways to give back and get involved!   I hope these options help spur your desire to really make a difference in your community.   As they say, it's so much better to give than to receive.   What better gift to give yourself in the new year but to volunteer or give back to a cause you really believe in or value.  Make a difference one step at a time!
