Chris Graves

Chris Graves grew up in Hyattsville, MD and graduated from Northwestern High School in 2002.  He enrolled at Southside Virginia Community College in 2004. While at SVCC, Chris worked in the College's library through the work-study program. Chris was also a member of the SVCC basketball team.  After graduating in 2006 with an Associate of Arts and Sciences in General Studies, Chris transferred to Virginia Commonwealth University.

Chris currently lives in Kings Mountain, NC where he is a Library Assistant for TECH@Lowell, a Gaston County Public Library in Lowell, NC. Chris has created programs to accommodate ages ranging from children to adults as well as teaching classes on different technologies.  In 2016 Chris helped his library win Best Newly Remodeled Public Library Facility in the state of North Carolina. His library was the first in Gaston County, NC to have a Makerspace. He states "everyone loves the Makerspace. The 3-D printer steals the show all the time."

As for future goals, Chris plans to return to school to study Information Technology. He would like to eventually work in a school system or at a college. He advises "when an opportunity presents itself don't be afraid to take a chance. Who would have known that the work-study position I held years ago would open a door for me in the future."
