Here's what's new on the Jackson County 4-H website this month!
Recognition Banquet

Thank you to all who attended our Recognition Banquet on November 19th, and congratulations to all our award winners! Also, a HUGE THANK YOU goes to the Jackson County Bankers Association for sponsoring the meal, the Jackson County American Dairy Association for donating the dairy products, and Delafield and Rost for hosting. If you were not at the banquet, please see your club leader to pick up your plates from county fair, perpetual plaques, or any awards from the banquet.


Santa's Workshop

We are still looking for a few volunteers to help with Santa's Workshop on December 2nd!

We are looking for 7-10 Ambassadors or adult volunteers to help us at Santa's Workshop at Riverside Elementary in Jackson!
   

Afterschool Adventures

In December, we will have Fabric Adventures, focusing on making learning basic sewing skills (like sewing on a button) to create a button bookmark and a t-shirt bag!


Winter Weather

Since we are getting to the time of the year when winter weather can pop up, we would like to remind you that if school is cancelled for the day OR if schools are let out early due to weather, all 4-H events will AUTOMATICALLY be CANCELLED.

WANTED: 2017-2018 Federation Reporter/Historian/Photographer

We are still searching for a 4-H member or members to serve as the 2017-2018 Federation Reporter/Historian/Photographer. This is a great way for someone in grades 6+ to give back on the county level!

Re-Enrollment

Re-enrollment for the 2017-18 4-H year is now OPEN! You can now go in to 4-HOnline and re-enroll yourself as a member and adult volunteer.

150th Jackson County Fair
Help us prepare for the 150th Jackson County Fair!  The 150th Jackson County Fair planning committee has chosen "Come Together" as a theme and we are now looking for old fair memorabilia, pictures, news articles, etc. to display next July.
 
This year, we will be offering a Project Expo which will allow youth to explore various project areas in hands on ways!   There will be a feature of 4 project areas where the youth will explore and either complete a project or will have the start of a project for the 2018 County Fair!  Throughout this time period,  youth will be able to select two project areas of their choice to attend and learn more about! 
 
This scholarship is for high school seniors and first-year college students currently enrolled in 4-H. Applicants must be from one of the following nine counties: Chippewa, Cottonwood, Jackson, Martin, Murray, Nobles, Pipestone, Rock or Watonwan.   
  
Apply Now to be a 2018 4-H Camp Counselor or DOC
SW MN 4-H Summer Camp Counselor applications are now open for youth in grades 9 and older.  Camp will be held June 18-22, 2018 at Shetek Lutheran Ministries campground on Lake Shetek in Murray County. 
 
Refresh your green spirit, gather new ideas, and harvest the rewards of networking with fellow SW Region 4-H Volunteers. An exciting adult volunteer day set to coincide with the SW BLU.  This leadership workshop will feature general leadership and project leader training tracks, volunteer panel discussion, curriculum showcase, and networking for all in attendance.

Associate dean and state 4-H director Dorothy Freeman shares a story about 12 year old Mela. Because of generous 4-H volunteers, Mela has grown into a confident leader.
 
2018 project bowl information is now available! Form a team and participate in one of the four regional Minnesota 4-H Project Bowls across the state. Check out the website for rules, resources and more to get your team started!
 
High school students pursuing engineering as a post-secondary option - check out this giant list of scholarships, curated by the American Society for Engineering Education.
 
Connecting with new 4-H families is an important part of enrollment. Club and project leaders are reminded they can use 4HOnline to obtain updated member lists and contact information. User guides and video tutorials are available.
 
The 2018 Southwest Animal Science Challenge will be held on Saturday, Feb. 17, in Wabasso, Minnesota. This event will include horse and livestock project bowl competitions, hands-on skill-a-thon stations, and workshops on a variety of topics. 4-H'ers can attend as a project bowl team, or as an individual.
 
Minnesota 4-H youth in grades 9-13 are invited to strengthen their communication, leadership, and citizenship skills at a national level by attending Citizenship Washington Focus in Washington D.C. from June 23-30, 2018. Registration will open Feb. 1, and close when all spaces have been filled, or by Feb. 28, whichever comes first.
 
The 2017-18 Clovermart winter sale is still open! We are accepting orders until Jan. 5. Clovermart is the place to find all of your Minnesota 4-H apparel and merchandise for everyone in the family.
 
Register now for the BLU leadership workshops for youth in 6th grade on up! Five BLUs will be held at locations across the state - registration deadlines vary by location. This is a great opportunity to gain leadership skills and meet other youth from the area!
