December 2017 Martin County Clover Update
Here's what's new on the Martin County 4-H website this month!
2017 Martin County 4-H Recognition Banquet

Friends, families, and community supporters gathered to celebrate the accomplishments of 4-H members and to show appreciation for the service of 4-H volunteers at the 2017 4-H Awards and Recognition Banquet, held Sunday, November 19, at the Sherburn Community Hall in Sherburn. This year's theme was 4-H All-Stars in the County! Those in attendance enjoyed a catered dinner by Gerhardt's Catering. A huge "Thank You" goes to the Martin County Bankers' Association for sponsoring the meal!

2017-2018 Council/Federation Officers

Thank you to the outgoing 2016-2017 Federation Officers! We appreciated your leadership the past 4-H year. And congrats to our new Federation Officers! We look forward to seeing how you can make the best better for our county youth!



2017-2018 Martin County 4-H Ambassador Schedule

The next Ambassador Meeting will be on Sunday, December 17 from 1:00 to 3:00 pm - Meet at the Martin County Resource Center.


Performing Arts Project Club

The next Performing Arts meeting will be on Friday, December 15 from 7:00 to 9:30 pm - Attend performance of All is Calm at the Fairmont Opera House as a group. Meet at the Fairmont Opera House lobby where we will meet as a group before walking together into the theatre. Performance will run 7:30 pm to approximately 9:30 pm. There will also be a meeting on 
Sunday, December 17 from 3:00 to 4:30 pm at Martin County Resource Center.

Livestock and Auction Committee Meeting

Mark your calendars! The Livestock/Auction Committee will meet at the Courthouse on Monday, January 29 at 5:15 p.m. You should attend this meeting if you would like to see any changes made, would like to serve a committee, or have any other ideas to contribute to the Martin County Livestock Program

Next Council and Federation meeting Scheduled for January 29

Reminder that the next scheduled 4-H Federation is on January 29 at 7:00 pm at the Martin County Courthouse. The Council will meet at 6:30 pm prior to the Federation Meeting.

Horse PDC Meeting-Save the Date(s)

Martin County 4-H Horse PDC Meeting will be held on Tuesday, February 6 at 6:00 p.m. at the Courthouse. Additional meetings are scheduled on March 6 and May 8 at 6:00 p.m. at the Courthouse.

Martin County Extension Office Hours for December and January
The Martin County Extension office will be closed on several holidays.

Severe Weather Reminder
We would like to remind you that all county 4-H meetings (as well as most club meetings) will be postponed or cancelled when there is threatening weather. We will do our best to cancel/postpone meetings at least two hours before their scheduled start time.
 
4-H Presentation Day will be taking place on Saturday July 14, at the Fairmont Opera House.
 
Apply Now to be a 2018 4-H Camp Counselor or DOC
SW 4-H Summer Camp will be held June 18-22, 2018. We are looking for camp counselors in grades 9 and up to help lead camp. Applications are being accepted now through January 17

This scholarship is for high school seniors and first-year college students currently enrolled in 4-H. Applicants must be from one of the following nine counties: Chippewa, Cottonwood, Jackson, Martin, Murray, Nobles, Pipestone, Rock or Watonwan.
 
An exciting day is being planned for all 4-H screened adult volunteers to network with fellow volunteers while gaining new ideas for working with clubs and youth. It will be held Saturday, February 24th from 9:30 a.m.-5:00 p.m. at SMSU in Marshall 
 
Associate dean and state 4-H director Dorothy Freeman shares a story about 12 year old Mela. Because of generous 4-H volunteers, Mela has grown into a confident leader.
 
2018 project bowl information is now available! Form a team and participate in one of the four regional Minnesota 4-H Project Bowls across the state. Check out the website for rules, resources and more to get your team started!
 
High school students pursuing engineering as a post-secondary option - check out this giant list of scholarships, curated by the American Society for Engineering Education.
 
Connecting with new 4-H families is an important part of enrollment. Club and project leaders are reminded they can use 4HOnline to obtain updated member lists and contact information. User guides and video tutorials are available.
 
The 2018 Southwest Animal Science Challenge will be held on Saturday, Feb. 17, in Wabasso, Minnesota. This event will include horse and livestock project bowl competitions, hands-on skill-a-thon stations, and workshops on a variety of topics. 4-H'ers can attend as a project bowl team, or as an individual.
 
Minnesota 4-H youth in grades 9-13 are invited to strengthen their communication, leadership, and citizenship skills at a national level by attending Citizenship Washington Focus in Washington D.C. from June 23-30, 2018. Registration will open Feb. 1, and close when all spaces have been filled, or by Feb. 28, whichever comes first.
 
The 2017-18 Clovermart winter sale is still open! We are accepting orders until Jan. 5. Clovermart is the place to find all of your Minnesota 4-H apparel and merchandise for everyone in the family.
 
Register now for the BLU leadership workshops for youth in 6th grade on up! Five BLUs will be held at locations across the state - registration deadlines vary by location. This is a great opportunity to gain leadership skills and meet other youth from the area!
