USCG Cutter Returns Home Following Hurricane Assistance
Following a 69-day Caribbean hurricane relief trip, the United States Coast Guard cutter
Venturous returned to its United States port in St. Petersburg, FL. The 76 crewmembers of the
Venturous performed various relief efforts and law enforcement duties in Puerto Rico and delivered 7,000 gallons of fuel and 5,500 gallons of water.
Additionally, the
Venturous crew repaired mechanical equipment which helped restore water to hospitals, homes and businesses of Puerto Rico, and transported surveyors and equipment to assist in the reconstruction of ports.
"Our crew was devoted to assisting the people of Puerto Rico in any way they could," said Ensign Benjamin Chapman, a crewmember aboard the
Venturous. "The crew even graciously donated about 700 pounds of food from the cutter's rations and 500 pounds of food from their personal supplies to aid the citizens of Puerto Rico."
